So what happens if Lanier goes dry?

Is that just no more water for Atlanta? At all? Isn't that a bit alarming?

I'm a new Georgian, though long-time DU'er. I hope to come to the meetup!

1. Y'all will be in big trouble. Pray for rain upstream of Gainesville.
I'm in Athens and we are scheduled to run out of water in the Bear Creek Reservoir (fed by water pumped from the Middle Oconee River) by Christmas unless it rains - a lot. We are on a total outdoor watering ban and the Athens-Clarke County government has a big campaign on TV,, Radio and in the papers about water conservation and tips to conserve. We are scheduled to go to severe rationing and plan "F" if we don't get rain. Schools, medical facilities and water to fight fires will be top priority. We haven't decided exactly what plan "F" will be but it's gonna be severe. :(
:scared:

Looking forward to meeting you in Atlanta! Catwoman and Ulysses are two of the original DUers from 2001! I hope they can come along with all of our other wonderful GA DUers! We're lots of fun!

2. So what happens if Lanier goes dry?
Howdy, this is my first time posting.

I am very concerned about the water shortage in the ATL.

I have already turned in 12 people in my neighborhood for illegal watering.

People are so wasteful and selfish it is beyond amazement, we need to pull together to get through this man made crises.

What r u guys doing in your neighborhoods to keep folks from illegally watering?

3. Luckily I live in a townhouse community
So we don't have yards to water, and the HOA no longer uses sprinklers in the common areas. We also get fined by the HOA if we water our plants. I have taken my few potted plants in, and water them with left over water.

I have sent emails to my friends and family asking them to do some personal conservation, like not running the water while you are brushing your teeth, turn it on and off. Taking shorter showers, and maybe fewer of them, etc.

Unfortunately for me, I have horses that I care for. So water is of critical concern for us, as is the price of hay because of the drought. CottonBear can probably back me on this. People with livestock are very concerned!

I am sorry for the mussels that are downstream in Fl and Al, and as a tree hugger I am all for keeping them alive and well...but...I think it is time for Georgia to be a little selfish, and let Fl and Al take care of their own, and let us keep our water in Lake Lanier to take care of our own. Yikes, that was very untreehugger of me! :hippie:

4. Rationing should probably start sooner rather than later
Maybe we can even talk the conservatives into, uh, CONSERVING.

If we could figure out how to tap into the condensation from all the hot air coming out of Neil Boortz's big mouth, the problem would be solved.
