Robert Reichert (D) elected Mayor of Macon

Yesterday, Macon elected former State Representative and prominent local attorney Robert Reichert to the Office of Mayor. Reichert defeated his Republican opponent, local businessman David Cousino, in a landslide winning every precinct in the city. Reichert garnered 11,446 votes (96%) to Cousino's 459 votes (4%).

Hello from blue, blue, blue Athens, GA! :hi:

I voted for someone else in the primary and then held my nose and voted for the Democratic nominee in the general election. Though these poll results don't show it, I'd bet Athens is still bluer than Macon. Macon is undoubtedly blue, but it's not Athens. The demographics here are such that pretty much everyone knew a Democrat was going to win. Conservatives crossed party lines to insure that the Democrat who did win was one they could tolerate. Reichert is a well-respected attorney, and I have no reason to question his integrity. Nor have I any reason to believe that he won't make a good Mayor. On the other hand, I can safely say that the more liberal Democratic candidates for Mayor were defeated by Reichert in the primary.
