I just can't imagine that not being the part of someone successful campaign against him. He came off as being totally unconcerned that that type 1 diabetes young girl could die as a result of his inaction. I am from IL & have no clue what the prevailing political situation is in GA, but I was just stunned by that segment.

1. I did not see the segment to which you refer.
But I have no love for our Governor. He is a second-term lame duck who, I sincerely hope and honestly believe, has no further political aspirations. While I like to think of my home state as traditionally moderate (a la Jimmy Carter and Sam Nunn) with both liberals (Cynthia McKinney) and rabid, right-wing ideologues (Newt Gingrich) at the poles of the political spectrum, our Governor and our two U.S. Senators I refer to lovingly as pustules.

Below, for your inspection. See if you agree.

PUSTULES

4. Whoops.
I may have understated Mr. Purdue's aspirations in the post above.

2. He used to be a lot bigger before he lost weight. I've met him twice. He's an ass.
He attended my alma mater, UGA, and got a degree in veterinary medicine. He's actually a licensed vet but he never practiced for whatever reason.

He asked for my vote and I told him I'd never vote Republican and he said "Well, I'm really more of a populist." Yeah, I thought, Eugene Talmadge and Lester Maddox were a populists too.

:(

I don't know what segment to which you are referring though.

He's made land deals which are very much related to tax breaks passed by the GOP controlled state assembly. Basically, he's lining his own pockets while Georgia regresses from our previous position as the most progressive southern state.

13. Here's the transcript from "Now."
Here's link to the website:

http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/327.html

And the excerpts:

HINOJOSA: At this point, there isn't a single state or federal program that will help pay for Ashley's medicine. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, a Republican, says there's pain out there because the federal government is not fulfilling its obligation to pay its share of S-CHIP.

We met a young woman named Ashley who um has diabetes. Her father just lost his job. It will cost her $908 a month, literally, to survive. Um they don't have the money. And because of the fact that enrollment is frozen, right now, she can't get help. So what do you say to a young woman like Ashley?

GOVERNOR PERDUE: That's why she should call her Congress—members, and say; We want this resolved right now. Let me—let me really clear about this. Georgia stands ready, is ready. We're currently funding the federal portion now, as we've run out of money. We're doing our part and the federal part. We're doing all that we can. To blame us for freezing a part—where our federal partners are not fulfilling their obligation, is not right, and I won't accept that blame. We're doing our part. You tell her to call her Congressman.

HINOJOSA: And I'm sure if I called her and said; Listen, the Governor says you should call your member of Congress. She would say, "That's not gonna pay what I need to survive. So the next thing you would say to her would be?"

GOVERNOR PERDUE: We can do no more. We're doing the State's portion and the federal portion. For you to take an individual and wanna' cast blame on the State of Georgia, and me, and what would I do, and what would I offer her. I—I do take offense to that.

He takes offense. :grr:

3. It was on the chips program
Gov Purdue response to a child with diabetes not being able to afford drugs that he was doing his part and could do no more. That they should call their congress people. It was a re run from some time ago.

7. yes he is
My God do I absolutely hate Sonny Perdue. This asshole ran on reinstating the confederate flag and appealing to bigots. While in office he used the capital for public prayer which was nothing more than a thinly disguised political stunt. And the only reason he's still in office is because Mark Taylor came accross as an even bigger asshole than he was.

12. But hey...
...at least the flag thing was just pandering, and never came to fruition.

What I'll never forget is when he decided we Georgians better just pray for rain. Great plan!

10. Unfortunately, yes he is,...
Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 07:43 PM by RT Atlanta
He's the same type of good ole boy who thinks its his decision, and his alone, to decide whether the voters of our fair state can vote to purchase beer/wine on Sundays (yes, we still have blue laws) in grocery stores, while Sonny-boy has no problem with alcohol sales at restaurants and sports venues (all of which you have to drive home from) on Sundays.

He's a P.O.S. and his term can't end soon enough.

11. Yep. He even tricked his own supporters on the flag issue to get elected ...
By promising to put the retired 1956 state flag design (w/the confederate stars and bars corner field) up for a referendum. Then after he was elected, he decided "nah, let's not include that design in the vote." There were "Sonny Lied" yard signs popping up everywhere -- those people were pissed. I'm not a fan of the old flag, but obviously, pushing voters' buttons is part of Sonny's political ops.
