Source: The Associated Press (via Ledger-Enquirer)

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Police say several people have been been shot, one fatally in southern Georgia.

Valdosta police Capt. Bobbi McGraw tells The Valdosta Daily Times that the shooting happened about 6 p.m. Sunday.

McGraw says four victims have been taken by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center.

She says people have been showing up at the hospital's emergency room claiming they were injured and that up to nine people may have been hurt. She says police aren't sure how many suspects there are.

12. You can't recognize sarcasm when you read it?
You automatically jump to the conclusion that the poster is a "right wing asshole". I guess everyone needs to use the :sarcasm: emoticon and write lengthy explanations about their posts so they won't be accused of being "right wing assholes". Right, after 1000+ posts the poster decides NOW is the time to come out of the "right wing asshole" closet. :eyes:

It's quite obvious to most, but there are some that lack the acuity to recognize the obvious.

edit to add: This post has nothing do with your views, my views, or the views of Democrats or Republicans. But, you said "muslin". I'm not trying to start a flame war, or even to fart in anyone's general direction. Piece.

http://www.walb.com/global/story.asp?s=11509955

Valdosta police say gunfire killed one person around 8:15 Sunday evening and injured nine others on the south side of town.

The shooting first happened around 6:00 this evening at an apartment complex at 807 South Frye Street. Police are questioning witnesses to get leads on a suspect.

We do know a large crowd gathered outside the apartment complex before shots were fired.

19. "Access" is either all or nothing
Either you can get a gun, or you can't. Blaming crimes on "access to guns and ammo" is code-speak for people who want to ban them completely.

22. It's "code-speak" alright
Code-speak for common sense. But who ever uses that anymore? And where were these wanna-be justice captains when we were being royally screwed by kindly bankers and the ass holes that sold out our industries to China??? What about the fine, young soldiers being sent to and blown away in countries for no reason other than to allow the Military-Industrial gluttons to fatten at the troughs of your tax dollars? How came their guns haven't kept thousands of them from coming home in boxes? Where was the outrage then? Armed Militias? What a crock. Heh - worried about your GOVERNMENT screwing you? What about the friggin' Corporate burglars that have gutted YOUR beloved country whilst greazing the pockets of your so-called representatives?
Of course, you've got your guns to cling to, so you're OK.

23. Appeals to "common sense" are actually a form of argumentum ad hominem
Edited on Mon Nov-16-09 02:03 PM by slackmaster
It's the equivalent of saying "Anyone who disagrees with my position is not a sensible person."

But who ever uses that anymore?

If "common sense" was a sound basis for analyzing things in the real world, we wouldn't need the scientific method. Because every individual has a different version of common sense, it's certainly not a sound basis for making public policy.

And where were these wanna-be justice captains when we were being royally screwed by kindly bankers and the ass holes that sold out our industries to China??? 24. Yes, but........
..... with a polished Cop Killer in your hands, it seems there's a simpler reality to good and evil. Maybe they (the death tools) come with a set of rose-colored shooter's goggles(I wouldn't know). But that was the bubble I was poking with a stick.

Funny, I just feel cautious when I have a weapon in my hands. My definitions of good and evil don't change a bit. They remain firm and clear, at least to me.

Maybe there is something about you that is driving your position on this issue.

27. No projection involved
I was just mocking the superior types I know who are gleeful gun lovers. The way they lovingly caress their death tools seems to show a sort of spell than comes over them with weapon in hand.

33. Well, you said it: "I wouldn't know"...
Try getting some instruction on the range and see if "...there's a simpler reality to good and evil..." or "...death tools come with a set of rose-colored shooter's goggles (I wouldn't know)..."

If you are poking at that bubble, then it is a bubble of your own making.

32. So, "code-speak = common sense?" If it's so sensical, why speak in codes?
I think the text of your message is instructive. Few here fail to see how bad policies and actions by our government have affected us, and if pressed, at least a few would own up to the growing reality that there is little we have done that has changed this.

But you want to go after gun-owners. Screwy eyeballs, indeed.

"We do know a large crowd gathered outside the apartment complex before shots were fired." Sounds like a possible freak out/self-defense action by someone who was not very well liked by the "large crowd"(read: potential vigilantes)...? It would be nice to not jump to conclusions and to avoid general name-calling when we know so little about the aggravating or mitigating factors. Peace...for now.

Edited on Mon Nov-16-09 10:51 AM by slackmaster
Could it possibly have something to do with the behavior of individuals?

No, impossible. It must be the guns and ammo.

:dunce:

But seriously, I suspect that sharesunited is projecting a fear of what sharesunited might do if sharesunited had a gun.

between access and availability of guns within a state and it's murder rate right?

Could you explain why that doesn't happen?

31. The Valdosta shootiing is bad, but the Brunswick family murder still chills me.

Its still not clear that if anyone was shot, but at least all the dead were beaten to death.

http://jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-11-03/story/search_warrant_brunswick_massacre_victim_clutched_hair

BRUNSWICK - Officers investigating the beating deaths of eight people at a mobile home Aug. 29 found hair in both hands of one of the victims and later took hair samples from suspect Guy Heinze Jr., search warrant records show.

That information is contained in the records of two of six search warrants Glynn County Magistrate Tim Barton issued for Glynn County police investigating the eight slayings and severe beating of a ninth victim.

Officers found the victims the morning of Aug. 29 when Heinze made a frantic 911 call saying he had come home and found his whole family dead.

.
.
.

In obtaining a warrant to search a truck that belonged to victim Joseph West, investigator William Daras said it appeared that two people found alive had "each received a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy showed that all had been beaten, which matches what Heinze told the dispatcher.
