This is great news. I hope he has a question and answer session or at least speak somewhere where a lot of people can hear him. Maybe the Civic Center!

I'm sure he's coming here because of all the great DU posters -- especially our newcomer to Savannah BabylonSister! :7

President Obama is coming to Savannah on March 2 to talk about economic growth, the White House announced Monday.

The daylong visit will be Obama's third in a series dubbed the "White House to Main Street Tour." The first two stops were in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The administration has billed the tour as a way for Obama to "take the temperature on what Americans are experiencing during these challenging economic times."

Obama's visit to Savannah could include several stops throughout the city so he can learn first-hand about job-training programs and other initiatives.

City Manager Michael Brown and Assistant City Manager Rochelle Small-Toney, who directs the Bureau of Public Development, have been contacted by Michael Brush, special assistant and advance lead for the White House. Brush, Brown and Small-Toney today will discuss a list of sites and programs the White House wants to consider visiting, Small-Toney said.

ATLANTA - President Obama will be in Savannah to stump for his economic program March 2, the next stop on his White House to Main Street Tour, according to a White House press release.

The day-long visit represents the president’s third stop on the tour that began in Allentown, Penn., on Dec. 4, and stopped last in Cleveland late last month. Both trips wound between small businesses and a town hall meeting.

The goal of the tour is to give ordinary people a chance to describe their economic challenges, according to the White House official, speaking on background. It also provides him an opportunity to deliver his message directly about the efforts he’s made to shore up the economy. No specific policy announcements are expected in Savannah, the official said.

Although Obama narrowly lost Georgia in the 2008 election, he’ll be on friendly turf on March 2. He carried Chatham County with 57 percent of the vote even though he didn’t campaign here.

When lead poisoning struck her son, Chalene Mudd told President Barack Obama that Ohio's Environmental Protection Agency wouldn't answer her calls.

"I guarantee you that someone from the EPA is going to call you in about five minutes," Obama responded at a Jan. 22 question-and-answer session in Elyria, Ohio.

Mudd told the Cleveland Plain Dealer an Obama staff member soon contacted her and it felt "so good to have someone actually listen."

The event was part of Obama's White House to Main Street Tour, headed to Savannah on March 2.

...sometime between 12 and 4 pm.

Details are slim, but there will be a “series of local stops”.
