Occupy Savannah

I won't be there, but I'm very impressed with the protesters.

It's an exciting time. People have taken to Wall Street in New York City to show that we're sick of classism in this country. To show that we're tired of living in a corporate controlled society. Thousands of people have gathered in peaceful solidarity to give us a voice. This is something that's bigger than any one of us, and it needs all of our support to continue gaining more of it's increasing momentum. If you can't make it to New York, you can still show your support by attending Occupy Savannah.

Occupy Savannah is a local group meant to demonstrate in the spirit and support not just for the people in New York, but for the people here as well. Do you have a cause you believe in? Do you want the public schools here to have a better budget? Do you want better environmental and factory regulations? Are you sick of feeling harassed by the local police? Are you sick of feeling like there's nothing you can do? Then join the growing movement. We'll be passing petitions around and we'll be accepting petitions to submit to the local, state and national government as well.

We'll gather at Emmet Park (on Bay street near City Hall, towards the end of River Street) starting at 9am on October 9th. If forced to, we'll march to Johnson Square at Bull and Congress Street. We will be practicing our freedom to assembly, we will not be shut down, and we WILL be heard. Ideally this will be an overnight thing. We understand that people need to make a living and have school, so we urge you to come and go as needed in order to protect your jobs and education. But otherwise the more people that can stay overnight the better. If all goes well, this will last indefinitely until responses to our demands have been met. We'll initially bring water for anyone who needs it as well as limited petitioning supplies, but it's suggested that you bring food and things to do- musical instruments, art supplies, pens, paper, anything you can think of. And especially film and photography equipment. We will be networking with the rest of the #Occupy movement, so be sure to document what you can if you have the resources.

Also please be mindful that this is a peaceful demonstration. For everyone's safety and for the potency of the movement it is important to remain nonviolent. We also respectfully ask that you refrain from bringing drugs or weapons, wearing masks that cover your face, or generally letting yourself get out of hand in order to avoid provoking the local police force.
