AJC Endorses Ellis Over Norwood

--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Atlanta Journal Constitution has endorsed Bob Ellis for Congress over Charlie Norwood stating, "Not only did Norwood threaten the interests of most of his constituents with his tax proposal, but he also let them down by failing to disclose earlier his precarious health." Of Ellis, the Atlanta Journal Constitution says, "Ellis is an entrepreneur with a strong interest in a better educational system and national energy independence."

1. Norwood, one of few Republicans once endorsed by the AJC..
Charlie Norwood, who is currently recovering from a lung transplant surgery in Northern Virginia, has a history of failed legislation (referring to his cave-in to pressure from the White House on the "Patients Bill of Rights") , missed votes (close to 100 missed votes, one being a vote on BRAC which could affect the lives of over 17,000 people in his district) and broken promises (citing that Norwood is breaking a Term Limit pledge for the second time by running for a sixth term). Norwood, who sold his home in Columbia County this past spring and now maintains a small apartment in Richmond County, lives in Washington, D.C.

I think the AJC cut Norwood some slack in past elections because he cosponsored the Patients Bill of Rights, and he was willing to promise voters that he wouldn't run for a fifth term. It doesn't surprise me that Norwood has lost the AJC's endorsement, mostly that voters were willing to support this flip-flopper after breaking his term limit promise in 2002.

But we have a better candidate running against Norwood this time. The 9th district may not be the most Democratic, but Ellis does have many advantages. Almost a fifth of the voters in the following counties are College students...Towns, White, Habersham, Franklin, and Oconee. In addition minorities make up more than 40% of voters in the following 9th district counties...Putnam, Greene, Morgan, Wilkes, and Lincoln.

The key to an Ellis victory is high turnout, and reminding voters of how useless Norwood has been in Congress.

2. I was most disappointed in another one of their endorsements
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 10:02 AM by RubyDuby in GA
They endorsed Brooks Coleman over Don McDaniel in Gwinnett. Don McDaniel offers more than "worthy opposition." He finally offers a choice. Mr. McDaniel is concerned about the things that matter most to the people of Gwinnett - relieving traffic congestion, curbing gang violence in the area and better education. The article says that Mr. Coleman has become a leader in education during his 12 years in the GA General Assembly, but Georgia ranks 49th in High School graduation rates and last in SAT scores. Gwinnett students attend classes in over-crowded classrooms and schools. Some leader....

It's time for a change and this change would be for the better.

edited for spelling - spell check is sooo overrated :)

3. What about the Phil Gingrey endorsement?
When a major paper endorses both Phil Gingrey and John Barrow in the same election, it becomes difficult to take anything they publish seriously! These candidates have absolutely nothing in common, other than they are likely to win. This is probably the AJC's primary motivation for endorsing Ellis, another that they are pissed about reporting Norwood's lies as the truth for nearly a decade. :nopity:
