Bainum condems 'bigoted' attack ad
Subhed: "The Hannemann campaign says they are not involved".

We report, you decide:

http://starbulletin.com/2004/09/16/news/index5.html

Mayoral candidate Duke Bainum is condemning as "narrow-minded, bigoted and racially prejudiced" an anonymous flier saying he is "buying his way into local politics."...

The flier was included in an advertisement for
(Mufi) Hannemann that was handed out downtown Tuesday by several men wearing Hannemann T-shirts....

"This sends a message that if you are from the mainland you can't be involved in politics here," Bainum said. "Hannemann needs to grow up and stop this nastiness and keep my family out of his mud-slinging."

The single-page black and white flier calls Bainum "a trust fund baby" and says that "mommy and daddy Bainum can afford to do a lot of deceptive advertising."

"Buying his way into local politics"? Aw, c'mon, Mufi, he bought his way into local politics years ago! :-)

"If you are from the mainland you can't be involved in politics here"? Last time I checked, Encino, Calif., home of Her Imperial Highness Linda I, was very definitely on the mainland... perhaps she should resign? :-) As I recall, similar dreck aimed at her appeared before Black Tuesday in 2002. There are so many valid reasons to attack her. Why focus on her haoleness?

I kind of got a sense that Hannemann's slogan "Our Home. Our Mayor." carried a whiff of anti-haole and anti-mainland sentiment; this pretty much sews it up.

3. Just call him "muffy" - he really like that!
I did it a lot when I lived there - when he was trying to carpet bag Honolulu in the early 90's.

Muffy.
