Need labor law advice (District of Columbia)
If a person resigns from a company giving 2 weeks notice, but then is told, the next day, to clear out his desk and leave the premises -- and is not given that 2 weeks as severance -- is that actionable under DC law?

Any help on answering that would be appreciated, thanks!

1. While I wish I had sage advice,
I have no idea... I would think that it would be the companies right to terminate (and respond with the clesr out the desk), but the no severence seems off - esp since many organizations pay two weeks in arrears (as in the paycheck lags two weeks - and thus the work has already been completed per the contract.)

Since I can offer nothing per the question, here at least is a kick to hope that someone more knowledgeable can answer.

May I suggest that you cross post the question in GD per reaching additional folks who may have some knowledge/experience per the question.

Nonsequitor: Always so glad to see you - thought it is normally in LBN when I catch a glimpse of a post of yours. Even if you can't post much these days - would love to see a periodic PM - as I so value your perspectives on the news, and on the DC region view of the political landscape. Long way of saying - I do miss your posts, and when I do catch them, I value them greatly.

2. Adding to salin's response...
Maybe you should post this in the DC forum. I wish you luck, in case this has happened to you or someone close to you. Since I am in Chicago and know nothing about labor law, I cannot advise. But I think that what happened to this person is beyond the pale. But, companies have so damn much power over the worker these days that it is extremely difficult to know.

4. It depends. I'd check with a legal advice line.
I don't know enough to give you specific or helpful advice. But I found some sites that might help. :)

If I was in your position, my question would be whether the company's action means that you can now collect unemployment benefits.
