DUCKWORTH CAMPAIGN

FROM THE DUCKWORTH FOR CONGRESS CAMPAIGN:

Hello,

13 months ago, Tammy Duckworth was flying a mission over Baghdad when
her Blakchawk Helicopter was hit by a rocket propelled grenade. Tammy
miraculously survived, but lost both of her legs. In the past year
Tammy has made an amazing recovery. In fact, as many of you have
heard, Tammy Duckworth is considering running for Congress as a
Democrat in the 6th district.

If elected, Tammy will serve us everyday in Congress, but she can't
get there without your help.

Please take two minutes right now to volunteer for Tammy by writing
me an email at Duckworth606@yahoo.com. I can supply copies of Tammy's
petitions, rules for gathering signatures and I can also tell you
about other ways you can help support Tammy.

Hope to hear from you soon.

- Dave McDermott

AND A REMINDER: HOPE YOU'VE COMPLETED AND TURNED IN YOUR "PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN" PETITIONS AND TURNED THEM IN. IF YOU HAVE NOT, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR 10 SIGNATURES AND TURN THEM INTO YOUR TOWNSHIP CHAIR NO LATER THAN MONDAY, DEC. 12TH SO THEY CAN BE FILED. IF YOU NEED A NOTARY YOUR TOWNSHIP CHAIR WILL HELP YOU WITH THAT.

REMEMBER - FOR DEMOCRATS TO APPEAR STRONG AND SHOW A UNITED FRONT WE NEED TO HAVE AS MANY FILED PRECINCT COMMITTEEMEN AS POSSIBLE.

HELP US CONTINUE TO GROW!!!

Thank you
Gayl Ferraro, Chair

This is classic! 3 days to sign and turn in your petitions.

There is no way that you'd start a congressional campaign from scratch this late unless someone has told you "Don't worry about the money. We'll take care of that for you."

What a complete waste!

3. You're mixing subjects here.
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 10:46 AM by kevsand
There are two completely separate subjects, by two different authors, in that email. The "precinct committeeman" petitions have nothing to do with the congressional race. They are instead the petitions which individuals file to be precinct captains, and thus members of the county central committee. They are mentioned in a reminder from Gayl Ferraro (the county chair?), implying that they have had these petitions for some time now (probably weeks, if not months), but they need to be turned in to the chair so they can all be filed at once. This is more for convenience sake than necessity.

On the other hand, the mention of nominating petitions in the section on Duckworth (by Dave McDermott) is mildly surprising. He gives no indication that they need to be in asap, and in fact it is unlikely that they would get them back in time for the first day of filing, which is December 12. There are only a handful of possibilities here:

1) The original email from Dave to Gayl was some time ago, and she is only just now forwarding it; or

2) Dave misspoke, and it is realistically too late to participate in a petition drive which has already reached its goal; or

3) The Duckworth people do not intend to file on the first day, thereby forfeiting any chance of being listed first on the ballot. The things we've heard about them waiting for a release from the DOD this week in order to run would support this possibility. They actually have until December 19 to file. As I said, filing on the first day is only necessary if you want to have a chance to be first on the ballot.

4. more disinformation i see
dave mc dermott is a durbin staffer from chicago. he is not "dupage dems" in any way shape of form. gayle ferraro IS dupage dems, she says nothing about duckworth in her half of this pasted together e-mail, and is on record as saying that the dupage democratic party does not take a position on a primary race, ever.
you are stepping over the line here, windy.

5. Would you like me to forward the e-mail to you. . .
. . .there is no misinformation here. As Kevsand said, this e-mail contained two items one on Duckworth one on precinct info. I included the entire e-mail without editing it, so please tell me what misinformation I'm presenting. If you would like I can forward the entire e-mail here and you will see that I did not spread misinformation. Paranoia. . .its a hell of a drug. . .LOL

they reek of neocons in the party. a smell we should all learn to recognize. it smells just like bill o'liely, or shawn insanity. talking points, spin, finger pointing, rumor, innuendo, accusations of tinfoil-hattery, and feigned offense at imagined insults. you've got the act down pat, man, i will give you that.

. . .and by whom? Have I ever questioned Cegelis' right to run? Have I ever questioned your motivations for supporting her? I would love to know what accusations are being leveled against you.

12. What does serving in Iraq have to do with being a good candidate?
If you want support, how about sharing some of the potential candidates' positions? Losing one's legs is a tragedy, not a platform!

Moreover: invading and occupying Iraq is a criminal atrocity. Does your potential candidate oppose continuing the war, or does she intend to subject other innocents to the loss of legs and more?

I shall be following the lead of Cindy Sheehan and not voting for a single politician who supports the war.

13. Meet Tammy. . .

Wounded veteran: War 'a mistake'

December 17, 2005

BY LYNN SWEET SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

Wounded Iraq war vet L. Tammy Duckworth, who launches her Democratic campaign for Congress today, said she would have not voted to authorize the war that cost her both of her legs and mangled her arm.

Though President Bush's decision was a "bad one," the Army helicopter pilot said in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times she was "proud to serve."

Duckworth, 37, a political rookie, faces a three-way March Democratic primary battle for the 6th Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.). Her main rival is Christine Cegelis, who won the Democratic nomination in 2004 and campaigned against Hyde with grass-roots support built on her opposition to the Iraq war. Wheaton College teacher Lindy Scott is also running.

National TV interview

The Duckworth campaign, orchestrated by Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chief of the House Democratic political operation -- who nationally has been recruiting Iraq vets for House races -- will be boosted by Illinois Democratic Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama.

"I'm just solidly in Tammy Duckworth's corner," Durbin said Friday as Obama, standing at his side, nodded in agreement.

Emanuel, Durbin and Obama are national Democratic Party leaders who are expected to use their considerable fund-raising ability to assist Duckworth.

Duckworth decided to do an interview today on national television -- ABC's "This Week" -- to jump-start fund-raising for her empty campaign war chest.
