What's going on with AAR and WCPT?
Well, as if it hasn't been said enough times before, WCPT's broadcasts (or lack thereof) are getting really annoying. It is barely 4:30 PM when their signal starts going to hell, and they shut down by 5:30 PM because of the day-timer rules. When the parent company has 2 FM 24 hour signals they can use, even though those signal are piss poor too. Now they have the "we play anything" theme on those FM signals; and IMO Jack FM's got that theme locked up pretty good, especially because Jack dispenses with the annoying disk jockeys and their small talk. There nothing more inane than "morning shows" and disk jockey political and current issue talk. They sound obviously dumb, repeat all the common cliches, and are all around wastes of time. But all this has been true for a long time, including WCPTs lousy signal even in the summer.

Now what has happenned is that AAR news is gone. Workers Independent News was gone a while ago, and while I'm no Marxist, it was a refreshingly different news. It was like listening to BBC, like hey man, there's a whole another world out there. But some management jerk off pulled that I suppose. So now they've puller AAR News too, and they have CNN Radio News, self-anointed "The Most Trusted Name in News." Yeah WCPT, I'm going to listen to MSM echo chamber news on your station, when I can get it on 43 other stations too.

What a bunch of fence-sitting wimps. Give us a proper signal, and just carry the whole thing. This way you're going to get some so-called undecideds, or so some media consultant jerk-off you hired probably says, but they'll jump soon as they get Stern on their XM, and you already lost me 'cause I just don't have the time for half-assed progressive radio effort.

And quit begging for advertisers and use to support your advertisers when you're just not committed to making a decent pass at it.

And AAR's madea complete hash of their morning lineup with this "On Ramp to AAR Morning" or some nonsense now, but that'll have to wait for another time. Well no, just forget it, I've got my choice of radio stations, and I'll check back on AAR in a month or two.

1. when you loose the signal...
turn to 1530 out of cincinnati, they sometimes play live local sports, but usually they have a modified aar lineup after 850 quits: delayed randi and the lionel show (i've even sometimes heard mike malloy live)

wcpt is shit for being a daytimer, but you get what you can get, and if your in an area that can pick up the signal from 1530 (i've gotten in from south of rt. 80 to almost the wisc border)

2. I am in the WCPT sweet spot
When Christen Cegalis had her "Meet the founders of AAR fundraiser" they told us that AAR had a one year contract with WCPT, so hopefully the AAR salesmen will try to get us on the 92.5-92.7-92.9 group of stations since I'm sure that they are the least listened too jack FM station. Or try to negotiate with another company.

Unfortunately from a physics standpoint there is no way WCPT could change their signal strength thanks to the KOA powerhouse

4. I tried to, but got barely anything
I tried to listen to 1530 AM, however it was late last night, around 10:30 PM. I thought I heard an AAR show, but the signal faded rapidly. Do they shut down before that time?

5. My drive last night
Last night I had to drive from St. Charles to LaGrange and CPT was fading so I switched to CKY and it was clear as a bell along the E/W and the Tri-state tollways and on my way home I had no trouble listening to it on the Eisenhower. Its just the physics of AM signals, it makes WCKY clear on cloudy overcast nights and requires WCPT to shut down at sunset.

The WCPT signal is never going to change, there is no way around it unless KOA Denver, Colorado decreases its power which is never going to happen. Our best hope is to try to lobby for another station.

6. 1530 is a lifesaver!
I couldn't get 1530 very well initially, it seems to have a good patch around 8 PM until 11 or so. But I've actually been catching Randi & Lionel these days, and I'm amazed at how a station out of Cincinnati, in a red state and red area of that state, has someone willing to run a credible commercial proposition compared to WCPT.

Interestingly, they don't carry Air America Radio News either, it was only while listening to a Florida affiliate on the 'net that I heard AAR News.

3. I got sick of straining to hear AAR on WCPT and I practically live on
top of the transmitter. I broke down and bought an XM Roady for about 20 bucks and pre-paid for a year of service at about 70 bucks. Love to hear my AAR on XM and it only gets better next month when Mike Malloy is back on live instead of Alan Colmes. I have no confidence that WCPT is going to have anything other than the signal that they have. They just want a no-investment, investment. Little time and/or money and be happy with getting anything out of the signal.
