PDA Endorses Third Candidate: Christine Cegelis from Illinois District 6
"PDA Endorses Third Candidate: Christine Cegelis from Illinois District 6
By William Rivers Pitt

January 12, 2006--District Six in Illinois, Rep. Henry Hyde's former seat, is up for grabs in 2006. Several candidates have thrown their hats into the ring, but one candidate stands out above all. Christine Cegelis, single mother of two, pushed Hyde into early retirement with her run in 2004 by gaining 44% of the vote in this district that is supposedly unwinnable for Democrats. In 2006, Cegelis is running again, and this time she fully intends to win.

Christine Cegelis is a progressive to be admired. She speaks eloquently of her opposition to the Iraq occupation, and of the need for the United States to join the global community by joining the community of nations in support of the Kyoto Protocol. The issues closest to her political heart, the issues that matter most to the sixth district, center on job creation and the establishment of a robust economy for her constituents."

2. Real endorsement?
What's this?
Snip>Note: To receive national PDA endorsement, a candidate must be endorsed by each PDA Chapter that has representation in the geographic area covered by the office the candidate seeks. For example, a candidate for House of Representatives would be officially endorsed by the Spokescouncil only if each Chapter with members in the Congressional District involved endorsed the candidate. Similarly, a candidate for statewide office would be officially endorsed if each Chapter within the state endorsed the candidate. The endorsement process begins with individual Chapters and is then ratified by the Spokescouncil.<snip
Local chapters like Christine, that's not a surprise. Looks like it will be an interesting race. Who can raise more money, PDA or Dick Durbin and Obama and Emanuel?

3. well, howard is setting records with nickels and dimes
besides, the grassroots need less money. how much is one committed volunteer worth? christine has what, 200? we will see. duckworth's money comes with a lot of baggage. it isn't a simple arithmetic question.

5. It might be more interesting, but most importantly I hope
they come together against Roskam after the Primary. Maybe Primary competition will show there's life in the Party without leaving too much blood on the floor.

9. And this helps Cegelis how?
Roskam can be tied to Abramoff and no one has been caught that's dirtier than Abramoff.

10. i dont know, you brought up the fundraising
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 06:18 PM by LSK
Republicans are the party of cronyism and such, Id rather have a grassroots candidate.

Not sure why Durbin is doing all this.

On edit, meant to reply to dogman.

11. I didn't bring up illegal fund raising!
Some day your wish may become a reality. Don't bet on it however. Until we have campaigns limited to public funding with caps and no special interest advocacy for individual candidates, money rules most of the time. That is why I said it will be interesting. If CC has the support of the people, she should win. I'm not convinced she does, that's all.
