now don't get scared off by a little snow, here.
it is only a little, it should be ending soon. remember that you can get to this place from half the public transit system in this city, both cta and metra.
and besides, i got a cake, and i will get sick if i have to eat it all myself.
so, no wussies here.

3. snow is tapering off.
after 8 is fine. parking should be fine. if there isn't parking in the bed/bath/goose parking lot, you can park across the street, by the gap/best buy, but not sam's wine and liquors.
you gotta come.

6. Hi, looking for information
My company is thinking of opening up an office in Naperville, IL, and I may have an opportunity to transfer there. I currently live in the Minneapolis area. Just wondering what Naperville is like.

7. Hi

Naperville is usually in the "top places to live" list. It pretty much has everything.

I don't live there but I would suggest a search on google to give you better information.

Welcome to DU!

Cheers! :toast:

8. naperville used to be the outer ring of chicago, but
the ring continues to spread. it is pretty much in the middle of the sprawl, now. most of the housing is in the high end, although not as high as it once was. and a lot of what was once considered decent housing is now considered a tear down target. all in all, tho, the whole area has been getting more and more dense for a few decades.
naperville itself is still fairly republican, but is really more purple every day. there are a lot of more blue collar areas within a reasonable drive, if that is more what you are looking for.
would you be looking to rent or to buy?

10. Thanks for the info
Now that is what I could not find on Google. I would prefer to live in a community of progressives. Any suggestions? I would be looking to buy a home- just now finishing my divorce and ready to move forward with my life.

13. Then let me do it this way;

I'll stay generic in my comments. As to a condo, townhouse or small single family house, you will be paying more than the surrounding area but you will probably have greater appreciation on your property too. Naperville is known for its school system and a few other things so people with families always want to move in, keeping the housing prices dear. It was in the top ten places to live in the US in 2005. It has a great library, it also has a lot of restaurants and a vibrant downtown. It probably has a lot going for it in the way of meeting people, but a lot depends on your tastes. It is becoming more common to see Democrats in Naperville but it is still on the unusual side. Most of the residents are well-educated.

15. In the county the Democratic vote is definitely picking up a lot
Edited on Thu Jan-19-06 01:01 PM by barb162
although the GOP still rules the county. A Democratic gov was finally elected a few years ago and there are two Dem senators, something fairly unusual these days in this country. There are plenty of Democrats in IL. As you notice I am writing about Dems here as progressive means something a bit different to just about everyone. With the 6 million or so people in the Chicago and suburban areas, I guarantee you will find progressives and liberals of every shape and form. You will find them in Naperville and surroundings communities too. Here is a link to the city's main newspaper and its talk page. Not all the people are Bushies as demonstrated by the emails
