Just Saying Hi!
Well... I am here. In sunny Illinois! :)

Wanted to say thanks for the DU messages of support. Was not easy leaving sunny AZ, PDA, and family to drive across the nation during the winter. But this race is THAT important.

We will make the offical announcement soon to everyone.

In the meantime, I would love to meet up with DU folks in the area. Both WilliamPitt and myself try to connect with DU'ers every place we travel. Sooo...

Anyone game for a meet up sometime? Name the pub!

Peace,

Kevin

1. Where in Illinois are you?
I know that you knew Andy Stephenson. He spent his last Christmas with me and my family.

And despite tonight's weather, this Illinois February night isn't bad.

2. Andy was a good friend...
Miss him very much still.

I am staying in Mt. Prospect, and Cegelis' campaign hq is in lombard. Here till the primary.

4. So do I miss Andy....
But I am in touch with termite and Andy's mother, and that helps. They are doing okay.

Chicago DU members tend to get together in the city somewhere. Different venues. Mostly those of us who get together live in the city or the south suburbs and Indiana. So the city makes sense for us.

We are sort of talking about another get together soon. Check this forum and the Lounge for info.

And welcome to Chicago.

3. Welcome to the Land of Lincoln, Kevin
Good luck in your work with Christine Cegalis. Even though I don't live in the 6th CD and cannot vote her, she sounds like my kind of Democrat.

Another DU meetup sounds really good to me, but please don't have it during the Winter Olympics. I can't tear myself away from the TV when they're on.

5. And I live in the 9th district...
Jan Schakowsky is my rep. But I have a good friend, who is a long-term DU member...though a lurker...who lives in Hyde's district. And he is a Cegalis supporter.

6. I'm up for hanging and remember on 3.22 we will be on the same team. . .
. . .as long as being a Cegelis supporter is not a prerequisite and my being a Duckworth supporter does not result in me being called a DINO, DLCer, et al. It happened the last time we all got together at Goose Island, I was horse for two days having to yell to respond to the accusations being lodged at me. . .LOL.

8. Well I'm game. . .
. . .as you can tell I'm opinionated, but those opinions are about love and trying to do what we to make the party better.

we just disagree on path. But ya know what... that is actually an asset... we can agree on end goals... just explore the various paths.

and DU pub crawls are like the UN. we should all be diplomatic with out brothers and sisters from DU!

peace, kevin

10. I loved you and Mopinko both.
I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our trip to Chicago and that gathering at Goose Island. Meeting all of you up there was a great time and well worth driving in snow to get up there. (That train ride back to the hotel was a surreal thing, however. I NEVER want to experience the blue line at 2 am EVER again.)

I'll grant you, I was wondering at times if I was gonna need the handcuffs and referee shirt, but it was still a great time. Frankly, I think it speaks volumes about the DUers that any gathering could turn into such a loud debate. NEVER doubt that any of us are passionate on our issues, and never doubt that we all CARE.

That is a huge step in the right direction for our country.

As I told everyone that night--the day after the Primary we DAMN well better all be on the same page unless we want to see another GOP candidate elected in that district. In our unity there is strength.

12. Welcome to the Land of Lincoln, Kevin!
Illinois politics can be a bit "different" than a lot of places and it is very much a blood sport for us.

Always remember: Here in Illinois we Dems EAT our young.

I'm supremely grateful to be in Dr. David Gill's Congressional District where we do not have a Primary and we have a wonderful progressive candidate to take on the resident GOPiglet.

Good luck with getting everyone in your family settled in, and I do hope everyone in your district comes out of this Primary united behind the Dem candidate that emerges from it.

Peace.

14. I'm game
for another meetup. We can do another one at Goose Island or I know someone who owns a bar, Hopleaf, that has an upstairs room we could reserve. Just let me know the date and I could set it up.

sorry, it is my home away from home. it is very public transportation friendly. and i promise that next time the service will be better.
but it can be anywhere as long as it has good beer.
prairie rock out in schaumberg is another good one. i have only been there a few times, but it is a big place. very, very, good beer.
pick a date, kevin. i'm sure you have a lot harder time finding time for this stuff than the rest of us.
