Ex-Gov. Ryan to seek 2nd appeal

The legal team for former Gov. George Ryan pledged this afternoon to seek another appeal after a federal appellate court this morning affirmed his sweeping fraud and corruption convictions.

In a crushing legal blow to the former governor, a three-judge panel from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago ruled 2-1 today that Ryan received a fair trial last year despite a series of juror controversies.

In earlier allowing the former governor to remain free pending the appeal, the court had warned that Ryan and co-defendant Lawrence Warner would have to report to prison within 72 hours if—as happened today—they lost their appeal. Ryan faces a 6.5-year sentence in prison.

George Ryan is so crooked I don't know know how he walks! I worked for a state funded substance abuse program during the Ryan years and got so tired of being used as his publicity machine. We had to jump every time he had a hair brained scheme concerning our program. All events contrived to bring him publicity. I remember one event when we were required to round up four local kids, drive 2 and a half hours to Springfield and set the kids in a room with other kids and discuss drug and alcohol use. We were given a pre made publicity release about how wonderful the Gov and his wife were to present this event and were to give it to our local paper when we returned home. I refused. My boss at least honored my convictions and let me write my own news release about the event. Which I may add, the Gov. did not show up at after telling the kids that they would have the opportunity to meet the Gov. He obviously had some bribes to take and didn't have time for the kids who had taken their weekend to spend inside a room talking about substance abuse. I remember the kids we brought we so disappointed. My opinion of him dropped even more after that fiasco.

No slammer for Georgie...yet.

Of course, his law firm is the one defending that scumbag Ryan pro bono.

One other thing, I'd love to know who appointed the dissenting Appellate Judge to the 7th Circuit. Why do I have a strong feeling it was 41 or 43?

admitting he is responsible for many people losing their lives, etc. because of his license fraud. Also the non-citizens running around the country driving trucks without any training or English skills.

Have they re-checked the records regarding illegal licenses, etc. around the country bought from Ryan and his corrupt administration?
