Illinois Judicial Election Guide Now On-Line

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A non-partisan guide to candidates running for seats on Illinois supreme, appellate and circuit courts is available at www.ilcampaign.org.

“Most voters say they have too little information about candidates for judicial office, and many voters are surprised to see any judicial candidates on their Election Day ballots,” said Cynthia Canary, Director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform (ICPR).

“This on-line voters guide will give voters a chance to find out who is running, consider their qualifications and find out why these candidates say they merit support,” Canary said. “The guide also reports the evaluations of the bar associations and provide links for voters to find out more information about the candidates.”

"The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform
The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform is a non-partisan public interest group, founded by the late Senator Paul Simon and former Illinois Lieutenant Governor, Bob Kustra. It conducts research and advocates reforms to reduce the influence of money in politics and to promote integrity, accountability, and transparency in government. ICPR works to improve judicial elections and promote voter education. ICPR has led the advocacy effort for a state-sponsored voters guide similar to those available to voters in half a dozen other states. "

1. I have not recieved even a pamphlet about whose running
in my district against Melissa Bean. I'd like to replace her but have no idea about the other Democratic primary candidates. Their information isn't even on Vote Smart. Are we supposed to vote in the dark?

4. I did vote
to remove Melissa Bean with another Democrat who is anti-war.

I voted for Edwards. A list of delegates were there for Clinton and Obama but none for Edwards. I left that open along with Durbin who had no one running against him. Wish there were a Progressive who was anti-war.

It depressed me more than any other primary in my life. Turn out was low in this area outside Chicago. They said, people were angry at the choices and mostly stayed away.

2. cook county endorsements. judges included
thought i would pass this along- these are the endorsements of the 49th ward democrats, including county-wide races. please note that the judicial recommendations are not just parroted bar assoc ratings. most of the candidates took the time to come up and talk to us. although we also looked at their ratings, in one case (madeline o'neil) we disregarded them because it was a candidate that we knew, and we thought the ratings were based on picky, irrelevant criteria.
i have only 2 disagreements here- one is the 7th district state senate race, where i support suzanne elder over heather steans, and for the glowicki vacancy, i support terry mac carthy.
i think these are all solid candidates, picked by the rank and file of the local party.
