Non-Obama Supporters in Illinois

How has your experience been living in the land of Obama and supporting Hillary for president?

I have always liked Obama, however I prefer Hillary for president, but I do feel that militant Obama supporters around the state and DU have given me a much more negative view of his candidacy.

Anyone else have any thoughts or stories about living in Illinois and not supporting Obama?

I'm not an Obama supporter, but frankly I like Clinton even less. I started out pushing for Kucinich, and since he's been forced to abandon his campaign I'm staying out of it. If Obama wins the nomination I'll vote for him in November unless he gives me a reason not to, but my campaigning efforts will be concentrated on local stuff like the county board. If Clinton pulls it out I'll probably vote Green. Given some of the stuff she's said, like her recent talk about "obliterating" Iran, I don't see how I could bring myself to do anything to help her.

As for militant supporters, I haven't had any major problem with Obama's, nor Clinton's nor anybody else's. I've had to have words with some of the Clinton people who were spreading right-wing crap about Obama's pastor. But for the most part, everybody on all sides who I've dealt with has been pretty reasonable.

I'm a committeeman, and I know Obama and Clinton supporters both. The common reaction seems to fall along this line: "Oh, you support Hillary? That's cool. I've always liked her, but I just think that Obama would be a better candidate in November" (or something equally bland/equable).

I know of no Democrat in my precinct who WON'T support *whoever* wins in Denver-- not a single one.

McCain and I like her "all for one and one for all" health care plan much better.

I went to an event in the 17th District. They have one of the strongest and most vital Democratic organizations in the state. Clinton and Obama supporters sat next to each other and had dinner. They were civil to each other.

I went to another event over the weekend. It was an event for Democratic women. I was angry that the women in leadership positions have swallowed the media hype and the half-truths of the Obama campaign. They said vicious things about Clinton.

I do not respond in kind. My official response as a woman in a leadership position is that I have told the Clinton supporters in my county that if everyone will agree to support the nominee, regardless of who it is, and to work to get Democrats elected at the state and local levels, I will keep our county neutral officially, and make sure that no arguments are allowed at events. I ask them not to bad mouth ANY Democrat publicly, including Blagojevich. That is also what the new chairman of the chairmens' association has asked us to do.

I make my comments on DU and let my immediate family know that I am a Clinton supporter. Everywhere else, I do not say so.

Don't try to change my mind or my preferences. I just got back from Springfield and I am tired.
