IL Supreme Court candidates: Anti-choice or anti-choice
My mother volunteers at an Obama volunteer headquarters down here in the southern part of the state, and she's brought me some cool Obama buttons and stickers. Today she brought me a new bumper sticker for Gordon Maag the Democratic candidate for the IL Supreme Court(5th judicial district).

To be honest, I didn't know much about him so I went to his website and the first thing that I see is "Endorsed by Illinois Citizens for Life." His opponent Republican Lloyd Karmeier is also anti-choice. The St Louis Post Dispatch did an article on their positions that can be found here.

I am strongly pro-choice and this annoys me. I'm not a one issue voter, so I'll still vote for the Democrat. I just don't feel like I can put the sticker on my car.

What do you guys think? Should I try to overlook his self declared "pro-life" stance and put the sticker on or just support him with my vote?

1. I guess that would depend if
he is personally anti-choice and wants to see laws banning abortion or whether he believes that Roe v Wade should remain legal. I am also pro-choice and that would be my own thoughts on whether I would vote for him. just my opinion.

4. Maag spokesperson Brendan Hostetler says:
"Judge Maag would apply the law as it exists."

Another article that I discovered finds Maag speaking to a crowd in Centralia "Over a dinner of fried catfish and Budweiser (BUD ) longnecks, the state appeals court judge lets listeners know that he isn't necessarily neutral about every issue, declaring that he's both pro-gun and anti-abortion."

I guess I'll have to trust that he'll "apply the law as it exists."

it`s nice that the republicans changed the straight party ticket voting option....where i`m at the states attorney who is a dem screwed around with a case for months and the public defender-now running against the dem- represented the case...so which one to vote for? hell i don`t know! but anyway that`s why they say "all politics are local"-or something like that.....

Gordon Maag's qualifications to sit on the Supreme Court of Illinois. The best way to find out all about Maag's fitness to sit on Illinois' highest court is to do some research into how Maag voted and wrote opinions while sitting on the Appellate Court ( http://www.maagforjustice.com/high_ethical_standards.php ). I am not from Illinois so I am not familiar w/ your court system or your state government's websites. However, again, I say -- and I am a lawyer -- the sole way to check out this guy is to read his written past opinions.

on edited I added: I've read much of his campaign website. This guy is a DEMOCRAT???????? Holy crap!
