A bad rumor about Blagojevich is spreading around here
Here being Springfield. The rumor has it that Blagojevich has knocked up some 22 year old daughter of a Springfield attorney. I mean this rumor is everywhere in town.

I think it's Republican dirty tricks. This is a very Republican part of the state.

Other parts of the rumor has it that Mrs. B has kicked Rod out and the local attorney is steaming mad about the incident.

Has anyone else heard this rumor in other parts of the state?

4. Chicago
I haven't heard that story. That sounds like bullshit. Typical Republican trick is right I think. However, I won't simply dismiss it. What are the facts of the story? Who is the attorney? Has this story even got a small press attention? On a much more skeptical level, why are you spreading this rumor? I understand it's not your intention, and I've had similar posts, but I just thought I would point out that the rumor could possibly spread to other parts of the state now.

On a side note, It's good to see a Springfield DUer. I went to high school in Springfield. I'm fairly fond of the place. Do you have favorite places to hang out there?

7. philandering has never appeared to be his style
In fact, he seemed to be an incredibly smitten young husband. Now Mrs. B booting him could be so if the Mell blow-up isn't just a smoke screen. You know -- do you stand by your man or your daddy?

Correction Tweed, I have now read that the infamous Christmas dinner involved the Gov's hearing that the cousin was bragging that he could take any material in that dump because he had an "in." That's not how I heard it the first time. And bravo for Rod if he shut the dump down to send a message to the cousin that he will not tolerate trading on the relationship. Have you seen, today, that the dump is back open, having agreed to remove the offending debris? The kicker seems to be that another dump was closed, also, which had been in Lisa Madigan's sites for some time. She had tried to get a court order to close it and Rod used an executive power to do it, evidently. This dump is owned by friends of Lisa's father. My what a tangle when the dynasty kids come to power. Well, the story goes that the second dump was closed so it wouldn't look like Rod was "picking" on only one offender, his cousin. Geesh!

10. No , I'm not trying to spread the rumor

I even hesitated posting this but I'm curious as to whether this is a local thing or has been making the rounds in other parts of the state.

I think it sounds like bullshit too, but there are a lot of folks around here who seem to believe it. Blagojevich isn't too popular here even among Democrats. Local Dems feel slighted by the lack of patronage jobs being created for locals here in the state capital. Blagojevich has given virtually all of these jobs to people form Chicago, or at least that's how it is perceived here.

There has been absolutely no press coverage which fuels my skepticism. Perhaps the Blagojevich people are ignoring the rumor (they must have heard it by now) since it seems contained and responding would only "legitimize" it.

Yeah, As far as i know I.m the only Springfield DUer. I've been hanging around DU for like 3.5 years, I just don't post much.

What school did you go to here? I'm a 1978 grad of Griffin High (now Sacred Heart Griffin). As for hanging out, well, with a 18 month old and two teenagers my best answer would be HOME!

Edit: I'd rather not post the attorney's name since I now don't think this is true. I will say he is someone who supports both Dems and Republicans for some reason (good for business?) so I don't think he started the rumor or has anything to gain from it.

13. I wasn't saying you that was your only intent
and I think you understand that. I also understand your reasoning not to put the attorney's name down. In my trying to get some truth in the story, I didn't realize that would probably make the rumor spread worse.

The thing that I was thinking is that the anti-Blago faction among the Democrats will run wild with this rumor. It makes sense that you would want to see how many legs it's getting everywhere. I'd probably would have done the same thing.

As for the high school... no way! I went to Sacred Heart Griffin! That's pretty cool. I got a quality education and I'm putting it to great use here in Chicago.

Perhaps you could do some recruiting of DUers in Springfield? There are places around downtown that let you put up things on bullentin boards. I was suggesting to Can O Beans, a DUer from Peoria, that he could put up little flyers for DU up. Carry one or two with you, keep some in the office for when you go out to lunch and put them there, or even make a Saturday afternoon out of it and go DU posting. Although with those kids, I'm sure that rules out the latter.

14. Its a small world
I spent my high school years living right next to Sacred Heart Griffin but I didn't go to school there.

I think Champaign might be funner town for a DU meetup but if people want to do Springfield I come down from chicago fairly often and I could suggest a few places.

5. How about a perfectly acceptable rumor:
Rod Blagojevich is a pathetic excuse for a governor who is still learning on the job. He's every Dem's nightmare.

Will those generic postcards that his office sends out, in response to constituent concerns, be worth money someday?

9. Our county chairman's wife, who is a VICIOUS gossip...
... hasn't heard a word about it, so I would seriously doubt that it's true. If it were, I'd bet $500 that she'd know.

11. Yes, it has been circulating for a while
among Democrats in Chicago. I first heard it a few weeks ago. I don't believe Republicans started the rumor. Of course, I have no idea if its true.
