"We will advise you when the disaffiliation is complete so as to enable you to take the necessary steps to dissolve the organization," Annelle Lewis, senior vice president of affiliate services for the national group, wrote in a letter sent Thursday to disputed local Chairman Bobby Collins. "The affiliate is to immediately cease all use of the Urban League brand name and logo and materials and shall terminate immediately all fund-raising events."

Lewis did not return a telephone call seeking comment Thursday, and league spokesman Ricky Clemons declined to comment.

The threat of disaffiliation has hovered like a dark cloud over the local branch’s rooftop since the national office placed the Madison County Urban League on "probation/suspension" Feb. 9.

Lewis wrote Thursday that the local league failed to satisfy the conditions set for lifting the sanction, which included reinstating Starsky Wilson, who was ousted as CEO and president."
