WTF? Justice Dept. to sue SIU for anti-white bias. . .
This looks like a wingnut fantasy come true - a case where the poor, victimized heterosexual white male is being denied opportunity (and we ALL know that they have little or no access to positions in the big, bad minority and women-dominated real world) . . .I think we need to be paying attention to this as it unfolds. . .

U.S. accuses SIU of anti-white bias

November 11, 2005

BY DAVE NEWBART, DAVE MCKINNEY AND CAROL MARIN Staff Reporters

President Bush's administration has threatened to sue Southern Illinois University, alleging its fellowship programs for minority and female students violate federal civil rights laws by discriminating against whites, men and others.

In a move Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said "just doesn't make sense," the U.S. Justice Department charged that three SIU programs that aim to increase minority enrollment in graduate school exclude whites, other minorities and males, in violation of Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act.

"The University has engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against whites, non-preferred minorities and males,'' says a Justice Department letter sent to the university last week and obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Ok...I haven't had enough coffee yet to launch into a rant about this, but some insight from ya'll would be real interesting. . .

3. Bush Administration is looking for any excuse to further restrict
affirmative action, much in the same vein as restricting choice. Without further information, it says a lot that Bush has brought this to light rather than a student filing suit and then Bush weighing in on it. (Was there a suit from a student?)

The faithful of Bush's Brood will be eating red meat on this one, hoping it gets all the way to the SCOTUS...just in time for Alito to dive in writing his first majority opinion.
