SouthSide Arson/Damn what a shame
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 11:55 AM by ls317
Prosecutors on Thursday said Dennis Craig ordered the arson at a Near-Southside home last month, orchestrating the attack from a home 50 feet away where he was on house arrest for gang activity.

Mayor Bart Peterson went to the neighborhood Thursday night, calling for Craig and three others to be prosecuted to the fullest extent for the crime, which investigators say was racially motivated.

Craig's family, meanwhile, said the 29-year-old was the victim of a police vendetta.

"My grandson is not racial. I raised that boy and I know he's not racial," said Glenna Craig. "He has had black friends right here in my house."

1. Denial in action
I have heard numerous comments complimenting Mayor Peterson's public response.

While not in my neighborhood - it is in the general area. Very scary that an active "gang" based on racism is operating so close to where I live.

The disgusting incident is a reminder that it wasn't too long ago that Indianapolis was considered one of the whitest and most hostile cities for African Americans in this region of the country.

*deep, very sad, sigh*
