Commandments at Statehouse? Daniels hopes so
Governor, others see support for idea in Supreme Court action on Monday.

Gov. Mitch Daniels said Tuesday he would welcome the Ten Commandments back to the grounds of the Indiana Statehouse, and keepers of an existing monument built for that purpose are eager to oblige him.

One day after the U.S. Supreme Court said a longstanding display on the grounds of the Texas Capitol was legal, Daniels said returning the commandments to the Indiana Capitol's grounds should be "a straightforward matter."

A monument similar to the one in Texas stood near the Indiana Statehouse for more than 30 years. It was removed in 1991 after being repeatedly damaged by vandals. A federal judge blocked the installation of a replacement monument in 2000, saying it could be seen as a government endorsement of religion.

But within hours of Monday's Supreme Court ruling in the Texas case, state Sen. Brent Steele, R-Bedford, sent Daniels a request to give the replacement monument a home. Considerable debate remained over the fallout from Monday's court actions, which also included the rejection of religious displays at two county courthouses in Kentucky.

Even so, Daniels didn't hesitate when asked Tuesday whether Indiana should have a Ten Commandments display on the Statehouse lawn.

"I think it is entirely appropriate," he said. "The Supreme Court has been badly confused for a long time about what the founders intended. To me, this display of the Ten Commandments is entirely appropriate and clearly constitutional."

WOW, Mitch knows what the Founding Fathers were thinking ? AND he's an expert at Constitutional Law ?!?! Amazing. :puke:

5. We are not worthy! (bowing down)
I don't know who Mitch meant by the "Founders," but he certainly was not talking about such notables such as Benjamin Franklin or Thomas Jefferson.

Was Mitch home-schooled by Fred Phelps or is he just pandering to the Jesusland people?

6. People like the Bitch and others believe the Founders
were the Pilgrims and Puritans.

They need to learn the correct history.

First, many were taught that Columbus discovered America. Others, have learned that the Vikings were had been to America before Columbus. Then those that finally realize that neither was first. Instead the Native Indians were the first known inhabitants of North America.

Still, none of the above were Founders of our country. There were founders of the colonies. But the colonies were separate entities. They were not States yet.

The only ones that can properly be considered Founders are those involved in establishing the colonies as a separate nation known as the United States of America. The actions of those Founders in establishing the government and why they took those actions are the only facts that are relevant.

The most important Founder IMO is James Madison. He is regarded by many as the Father of the Constitution. His knowledge was instrumental in providing the direction that the Convention took to create the Constitution. Madison is also the only individual that has the most complete grasp throughout his lifetime of what took place at the Convention by virtue of him taking notes. Whenever there was a question of interpretation of the Constitution it was Madison that was given the nod. Each President during Madison's lifetime went to Madison for counsel regarding the Constitution.

There were attempts to include religous beliefs and practices in the Constitution and government. But they were shot down even to the point of being stripped out of the State Constitutions at the time.

If the Founders were so adamant that the God should be in government then why wasn't it stated in the Constitution? Why weren't the 10 Commandments included in the Constitution? Why weren't religious leaders given special privileges in the Constitution?
