Is Indianapolis a blue city?

How conservative is Indianapolis? Are there a lot of religious fundies there?

... or check the message board to get just a sampling of the idiocy that runs rampant around here.

It's actually kind of scary to see so many willfully ignorant and spiteful people in the 21st century.

Paper is not read by just Indy people nor are the letters to the editor.

It might be a better gauge if the party faithful are weeded out of the letters to see what the average citizen is thinking. Which makes it important to know who the Republican precinct committee people and their leaders are in the county party.

Democratic Mayor, Democratic US Congresswoman, John Kerry won the majority of the votes in Marion County for the presidental election. But at the same time all I saw during the last election was My Man Bitch greens signs & Bumper stickers everywhere had to out number Kernan stuff by at least 3/1. Positive is that Indianapolis will only become more and more blue with each and every scared repuke that moves out of marion county, into the false safety of Hamiltion, Johnson & Hendricks Counties.

it is my understanding that there was politics involved --->>> Bayh. It was only after Manous was out as State Chair that Kernan considered running.

The problem was Bayh and Manous.

I've noticed something though it seems most of the conservative areas try hard not to be from Indianapolis. I've actually had people who live in Speedway area snap at me when I ask them if they live in Indianapolis. People who clearly live in Indianapolis but near Plainfield or Greenwood claiming those places. The only time they seem proud about it is when it's time to talk about the Colts or the Indy 500.

...about living in Speedway. There is a huge amount of pride among the 13,000+ residents; better schools, nicer lawns, our own police and fire service, etc (read: obsessive). Getting a house here can be quite a challenge; most are only on the market less than one week, versus 62 days for the Indianapolis market. And many of us paid a premium price for those homes and the right to be called Speedway residents. Some of the attitude probably comes with having Indianapolis constantly claim things that are very clearly Speedway; the "Indianapolis 500" should be the "Speedway 500", etc. The racing capital of the world is NOT Indianapolis, it's Speedway, Indiana, etc., etc.

As for politics, we've got a long way to go to become blue, as we're currently run by five appointed Repubs who meet twice a month and manage to take care of the "entire" city's needs in 22 minutes or less (look at the town minutes; they average less than 25 minutes, which means most issues are being decided behind-the-scenes with no community input, which sucks!)
Sorry if one of our little group came across as short or snappy...must be one of those red-state voters, because the Wayne Township Democrats are a really nice bunch...

Positives, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Love the place, I was happy to see Tony George was finally able to buy the rundown motel across from the track and knock it down, that place was trouble. Why would anyone want to call it the "Speedway 500" the track was there before the town was named, someone call Donald Davidson :rofl:

Negatives, hate to be picky, but speedway police, are only second to Clermont police at being pigs. I don't like a few years ago at my old residence I had speedway sewers, anyone who wasn't part of the town of speedway got robbed bills like 80 dollars a month, I've moved since then but I know the Owner of the laundry mat in Chapel Hill Shopping Center on west 10st put up a fight and I think He got some changes done. My family use to live in speedway in the early 80's, I don't know about now days but back then if there was a thing like if you weren't from speedway originally you where looked down at, My mother always wanted to know why they treated her differently at school functions when no one in speedway lived in a mansion.

We elected a Democratic mayor a couple of years back, Debbie Cantwell.

BTW, I live in the blue part of Lawrence, smack in the middle of "Little Mejico." We have more taquerias than Mexico City, relatively speaking.

in droves..that is why INdy is more blue.

Carmel and places like that are so Red they almost glow.

Something along the line that he won because of the doughnut effect. Meaning that more repugs moved out of Indy into the surrounding counties.

Which is also why the City/County Council is now Democrat controlled.
