At the Islamic Center in Plainfield? That's what we were told by a co-worker today! I don't know where he heard this, but he made it clear that it is common knowledge among his circle of friends, all of which are fundamentalists. The reason the said this is because he has warm fuzzy feelings about us Jews, and he has often spoken about Armageddon.

He was shocked when we told him that the Muslims in Plainfield are very nice people, a far cry from the likes of the Wahabbis and Al-Qaeda.

Now, have any of you heard shit like this before from the fundies you know, and if you have, who the hell is telling people this crap?

BTW, this guy is convinced that Saddam hid WMDs in the desert.

1. I haven't heard that particular idea
A little bit ago I posted this in the religion/theology section - it's from a Muslim who lives or works in Plainfield:

"The Politics and Morality of Apostasy*"

2. Crap
The watertable in Iraq would not permit them to hide WMD's in the desert. Scott Ritter came to Indianapolis and said that before the illegal invasion (see, I didn't say war).

3. That is nothing short of fucked up.
This most likely indicates some firebranding on behalf of churchleaders. Common knowledge usually means "pastors says...".

5. never heard it either.
sounds like some fundy pastor is having a hard time keeping his flock satisfyingly afraid and bounded together in probush mantras trying to find a theme that will band them together in a frenzy of local fear.

Some would call it slander. Would be interesting to know from where this little "well known fact" (from the OP) originated.
