Our Congressional candidates
I believe we have some very capable, qualified candidates running in most of our congressional districts. I think we have a real good chance of unseating the incumbent Republicans. In my home district (5th) I really dont know much about Katerine Carr who is running against Dan Burton..My question is does she have a chance of defeating him?

1. I haven't heard of her. In the 9th District, my repub brother thinks
that Hill will beat Soderal given that both have served in Congress (both get the 'incumbent' pass) and the great unhappiness (even among repubs) with Bush and Daniels. Interesting thing, repub bro doesn't sound upset/angry/discouraged with the idea of Baron Hill winning the seat for the Dems.

3. I wish I could be as optomistic as you...
it is a great dream. I do think there is a real chance in the 8th and 9th and is Chocola the 3rd ? I think there is a growing possibility that the Indiana congressional delegation could flip to majority dem in November.

And yes, it was Soderel that had to hold a bush fundraiser outside of his district to attract donors.

4. The 5th is really tough
Very safe Republican, unfortunately. About the only chance is some major revelation on Dan Burton between now and the election...

5. Carr is a pro-life fanatic, and she is anti-LGBT
Edited on Mon May-08-06 06:37 PM by IndianaGreen
She runs as a Democrat because she thinks Dan Burton is too liberal!

You have my condolences! :(

On edit:

She ran against Burton in 2002 and she was more open about her prolife views. On her website that she now has, she doesn't mention abortion at all, and she portrays herself as a right of center candidate that supports the Constitution (who can disagree with that) with a populist flavor.

6. We had a really good candidate with Brown and he
did pretty good in the primary..but of course not good enough I was thinking that Carr was just a token candidate and the Democrats wouldn't invest a whole lot against Burton..
At one time I had given some thought of running against him but it takes loads of money to get a good campaign off the ground...

8. Whats pathetic is IN Democrats State party organization
and that is the probem..We have some great County Chairman across the state but for the most part our state party leaders and several county leaders are not agressively seeking good candidates. We need a real shake up in our organization from the county level up. I must say though I am really impressed with several Congressional challengers. Now the party (state party leaders) have to quit setting on their hands and do something for these guys....
