Poll-Worker Crunch Among Election Challenges in Indy
Keep in mind that the most recent polls are showing that Democrats are on the verge of winning three GOP House seats tomorrow, now we have a new photo-ID law, and not enough poll workers. The fix is in!

Poll-Worker Crunch Among Election Challenges In Indy

INDIANAPOLIS -- On the afternoon before Tuesday's elections, about 20 polling-place jobs in Marion County were unfilled and 183 of the county's poll workers failed to pick up voting materials, raising concerns that some polls won't be open for a full 12 hours.

The county's Republicans are supposed to fill the jobs because their party holds the secretary of state post. Late Monday afternoon, Marion County Democrats said Republicans asked them to help fill precinct inspector positions -- a move that could ensure all polls will be open as scheduled, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., 6News' Norman Cox reported.

Marion County Clerk Doris Anne Sadler, a Republican, said some longtime poll workers declined to work this time because they felt they couldn't deal with a new computerized voting system being introduced in the county.

"Some poll workers ... have come out and said, 'I'm sorry. I just can't do it,' " Sadler said. "So, we still have concerns about tomorrow morning -- that all our poll workers can get those machines up and running."

Before Democrats said they had been asked to help staff the polling places, county Democratic chairman Ed Treacy said he was concerned some locations wouldn't open on time, and he suspected that if there was a worker shortage, Republicans would make sure the understaffed spots would be in heavily Democratic areas.

1. I know it's a little late but...
I told my wife that I want to take Election day Tuesday and the Wednesday after election day off in '08 so I can volunteer. Had I been as passionate about this last year as I was this year, I'd probably be Volunteering tomorrow!

2. Thanks, Dapper, for stepping up to help!
We need about 941 more of you in Marion County, just to keep an eye on Doris Anne and her crew.
Can we clone you? (ha ha, wedge issue - just kidding!)
But, seriously, thank you!
Keep us posted on what you're seeing out there!

4. Hey Speedway Democrat
When I filled out my voter registration for the presidental election 2 years ago I checked I would be willing to work the polls, I never heard anything, I've been busy at times and forgot about it, was I suppose to call up and say hey I am available to work or where they suppose to call me?

3. Up here in Precinct 64 ...
... there were poll workers standing all over the place. I was the 24th voter, at 7:35 am this morning.

:hi:
