Oops... representative Hostettler accidently tries to carry a gun
through an airport and onto a plane.

Hostettler held for gun in carry-on
By Jonathan E. Kaplan

Rep. John Hostettler (R-Ind.) was detained by security officials yesterday for attempting to carry a 9-mm Glock pistol in his briefcase onto a US Airways flight at Louisville International Airport.

Hostettler’s spokesman told the Associated Press that the congressman planned to speak with reporters last night — past The Hill’s deadline.

Hostettler’s office did not return phone calls seeking comment.

2. Okay, so I don't happen to be a gun owner
myself, so perhaps I'm more than a little naive when I say I can't understand how anyone can forget they have a gun in purse/briefcase/wherever. Are all these people LEGALLY carrying concealed weapons?

3. Fucking idiot
I can't wait to move out of his district, as he'll still get re-elected.

4. I live in his district...

He is completely without substance but he throws the Repig sheeple and fundies the red meat they crave. His followers have been circling the wagons to rally behind him.

He's got a strong following down here but he has almost been beat a few times, maybe this will be the year. Jon Jennings is running against him this year and I hear he is well funded. I have my fingers crossed that he can pull it off.

5. He was "in a hurry" and "grabbed the wrong bag"....
So this means he packs heat when he's at the office?

What were those stories I used to read about people like King Hakkon and Queen Margerietha walking and biking amongst their subjects "protected by the love of their people"?

Maybe he ain't so stupid.

6. Funny point I heard raised in Indianapolis
so Hostettler suggests that he feels he needs to carry in his district but not in DC - implies he feels LESS SAFE in his district than he feels in DC. Wonder how that throw away line would work with some of his constituents.

7. Poor fund raiser?

I recall him a few years back refusing a portion of some federal grant on behalf of the district because he thought it was an example of government waste (it was, of course, redistributed by Newt to other districts). Why would a man who refuses his district's share of pork have a hard time raising funds for re-election?

On the plus side, Crane Naval Whatsit (they keep changing the full name) has done quite well during his tenure through several rounds of base closings. But I suspect this is due to Crane's worth as a base versus its complete lack of worth for anything else.

8. He "intends to fight the charge"...

Oh, Puh-LEEEEEZ!!!!

"Mr. Hostettler, did you, or did you NOT carry a bag containing a loaded firearm into the airport?"

"Yes, your Honour, but.."

"No 'buts' about it Mr. Hostettler. This court is charged to discover the facts and act upon them. 'Intent' doesn't enter into it. Now I know you didn't 'intend' to carry that Glock onto the aircraft, but face it, boy, you fucked-up. Now be a MAN and take the punishment..."

Hmmm....Could a conviction cost him his seat in Congress?

What a marroon!

9. Personal responsibility
will fall by the wayside in this instance, of course.
