INDY Vigil in Solidarity with Voters 12/13/04
Sorry if this has already been posted. I can't go but I just received this from our Democracy for America newsgroup:

Indy for Democracy is planning a Candlelight Vigil at the Indiana Statehouse on Monday evening,  We're planning to meet on the sidewalk by the Statehouse steps where West Market Street runs into Capitol. 9 (We don't have a permit, so we're limited to the public sidewalks.)

The point of the vigil is to stand in solidarity with voters around the country and the world on behalf of  a democratic system in which all votes are counted, and no voter is disenfranchised by misinformation, long lines, badly designed ballots, or hostile
partisanship in their Precinct, Ward, County, or State.

Rally's, Vigils, and Protests are being held by different groups scattered around the country this weekend, and on Monday, because Monday is the day the Electoral College votes, and there are still unaddressed concerns about the vote in Ohio.

Voting is at the core of democracy, and it needs to be sacrosanct.  Word on the ground from Ohio is that -- as in Florida in 2000, it was not.  And as in Florida -- the most egregious incidents were in precincts with high percentages of minority voters.

I think the time to stand up and be counted on this issue is now. -- In Ohio -- activists are protesting what happened, and pursuing remedies in the courts in efforts to bring about redress and full investigations, so it will never happen again.  They need our support.

We laid down after Florida in 2000.  Let's not lay down this time.  Democracy is too precious a thing to discard without a fuss, or if necessary, a fight.
