Social Security blitz descends on Iowa

In the tug-of-war of spin over Social Security, Iowans are smack in the middle.

As both supporters and opponents of personal accounts for Social Security head for the grass roots, private groups are gearing up public opinion campaigns. Both sides say they are trying to appeal to the young as well as the old in the passionate national debate over the future of the nation's retirement insurance program.

In Iowa, television, radio and print advertisements reminiscent of the bitter 2004 presidential campaign, fought hard in the state, will be only the tip of the iceberg.

1. don't let them destroy SS. It's one of the greatest American

institutions. The right wing have hated the New Deal but it helped the US become prosperous.
