Does anyone here remember the Leclair minister,
who wouldn't let the women who displayed the Kerry signs come to church?
This NC stuff just triggered the memory.
I've been trying to search for the story in the QCTimes, but have a pathetically slow pc.

Thanks

Pro-life display causes stir
December 29, 2004
By Barb Ickes

The graphic anti-abortion sign is gone from the pastor’s yard, but the political fallout still lingers in LeClaire, Iowa.

Pastor Tim Groves of New Life Community Church created a stir in his small community and in his church in late October when he posted a giant blown-up color photograph of a decapitated newborn in his yard.

The sign urged people to vote for President Bush and other pro-life candidates in the Nov. 2 election.

But several parents and other citizens complained that the sign was inappropriate for neighborhood children who happened by, and some congregants in Groves’ church took exception to the sign and its political message.

LeClaire police became involved and some of the hard feelings among church members continue to simmer.

Two elderly members of Groves’ church filed harassment complaints against him last month, alleging that he repeatedly called them and hounded them for supporting U.S. Sen. John Kerry for president.
He also preached from the pulpit that Christians are obligated to vote for pro-life candidates.

Police warned the pastor to steer clear of the women and recently said Groves appears to be complying.

5. Yes I do remember that ass clown
LeClaire is my hometown and I used to run around with one of the ladies in question's sons. Shortly after the story broke, I ran into her oldest son at a local grocery store and was asking him about the whole situation. He wasn't at all happy, to say the least. Haven't heard anything since then except that attendance at that particular church has dropped a lot in support of the two elderly ladies. LeClaire is a fairly close knit town, one where people still chit chat over morning coffee and maybe even have a beer or two while discussing last nights ball game or any number of other things. I am happy that I was raised there, although there is little reason for younger people to stay there, unless they land a job near there. That "pastor" stuck his foot in it, imo. Please notice the spelling of the town. Perhaps if you entered the correct spelling you'd have better luck with your search. Common mistake I guess.
