Search continues for missing pregnant woman

The husband of a missing pregnant woman from Pottawattamie County said Monday he is worried for her safety days before she is due to have their first baby together.

Stephanie Ehlers, 34, of rural Minden was last seen by her husband, Jason Ehlers, on Saturday. She told family members she had a doctor's appointment Monday in Council Bluffs, where labor was to be induced. But when family members contacted Stephanie Ehlers' doctor, they learned an appointment was never scheduled, Jason Ehlers said.

He said he and his wife had not argued, and she was sleeping Saturday night when he left for a party. When he returned at 3 a.m. Sunday, his wife - and her red 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 - were gone. "Nothing was out of the ordinary," he said.

The case quickly drew national attention Monday, with Ehlers appearing on Fox News with Greta Van Susteren and CBS's "Early Show." Stephanie Ehlers' disappearance comes within months of the conviction of Scott Peterson, who was sentenced to death for killing his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son.

Jason Ehlers said he and Stephanie were excited about the birth of their first child together.

Stephanie Ehlers is 5 feet 2 inches tall with short brown hair. She weighs 130 pounds and may not appear pregnant if wearing loose clothing, her husband said.

1. Wow, I wonder if she wasn't pregnant?
And couldn't follow through with the ruse?

2. LOL -- that was exactly my first thought as well.
Or maybe that she wasn't as far along as she led others to believe? Something about the 'loose clothing' statement sent up some red flags.

From day one, it seemed odd to me that Scott Peterson would leave his eight-months-pregnant-for-the-first-time wife alone on Christmas Eve to go fishing in bad weather. Now we have a guy whose wife is days away from having labor induced partying until 3AM and finding her and her car gone with no signs of forced entry or resistance? The first sentence strongly implies that he didn't know about the labor-inducing appointment. And she doesn't look pregnant in loose clothing? Either he's not telling the truth, or she ran off because the pregnancy was a hoax. If she returns with a baby and a story about being kidnapped, he'd better demand a DNA test.

6. Glad she was found
But you heard it on MSNBC? Didn't think they'd have time for anything Iowa since we are nowhere near the Presidential election.

7. Minden Woman Tells Police She Left Because She Was Unhappy
A Minden, Iowa, woman who disappeared Saturday apparently lied about her pregnancy because she was unhappy, according to a news release from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office.

Stephanie Ehlers was believed to be pregnant when she disappeared Saturday. She was found in Omaha Tuesday..."The deputies confirmed Ms. Ehlers was OK and had left her Minden home under her own free will," ...(a)...news release stated. "Ms. Ehlers...found out in September that she was pregnant but miscarried approximately three weeks later. She ...continued to lie about being pregnant due to her unhappy home life. ...her long goal plan was to conceal her identity and start over in Texas."

So most of us were right. But I would think a miscarriage would have brought them closer together. Case closed.

8. Well, he WAS out partying until 3 in the morning...

while she was at home, supposedly eight months' pregnant.

Not saying that he should be chained to her side, but still....shouldn't he have been home with her?

Not too hard to see why she'd be unhappy.

On edit: If you read the article, too, her family says that prayer will solve her problems. Yeah, I'd punch out of that, too.

9. Now she has died
In an odd twist this poor woman died on an overdose of tylenol at a hospital in Omaha. There must be a story in this thicket.

Woman who was reported missing dies at Nebraska hospital

MINDEN (AP) --- A woman who said she was pregnant when she disappeared last week has died in a Nebraska hospital apparently after taking an overdose of Tylenol, Nebraska authorities said.

Stephanie Ehlers, 34, of Minden, died Tuesday at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha, Neb.

Ehlers swallowed a large number of Tylenol tablets and then drove herself to a Creighton medical clinic about 4 p.m. Sunday, Omaha police spokesman Chris LeGrow said.

Poor woman - there must be so much more to this story than was reported.
