Senators who refused to sign anti lynching resolution - GRASSLEY
Senators who refused to sign anti lynching resolution

Tue Jun 14th, 2005 at 09:09:49 PDT

Here are the 20 Senators who 1) refused to co-sponsor the anti-lynching resolution passed yesterday, and 2) refused a roll-call vote so they'd have to put their name on the resolution.
Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Robert Bennett (R-UT)
Christopher Bond (R-MO)
Jim Bunning (R-KY)
Conrad Burns (R-MT)
Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
Thad Cochran (R-MS)
Kent Conrad (D-ND)
John Cornyn (R-TX)
Michael Crapo (R-ID)
Michael Enzi (R-WY)
Chuck Grassley (R-IA)
Judd Gregg (R-NH)
Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Trent Lott (R-MS)
Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
Richard Shelby (R-AL)
John Sununu (R-NH)
Craig Thomas (R-WY)
George Voinovich (R-OH)
19 Republicans and 1 Democrat, a real wall of shame.

1. Yeah I saw this list elsewhere
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 11:40 AM by Bluzmann57
and I was surprised about Grassley's name being on it. I know he is a right winger, but overall, he has always seemed like a decent guy. Besides, he's an Iowan and Iowan's I know don't condone that type of thing.

11. Don't let him fool you.
From some of the bills he's supported and rejected during his career in the Senate, I question whether he has any Iowa values or is even from Iowa.

4. A poster on Kos said he called Grassley's office
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 03:56 PM by rurallib
The staffers were at a ;oss to explain.
I wrote him a nasty letter saying how he had embarrassed the state.
He can still cosponsor this resolution. Four have done this after the fact, but not Grassley.
Harkin was one of the original cosponsors back in February.
Grassley -lapdog of lapdogs.

5. Probably out of spite for Harkin, methinks....
For all his aw-shucks bonhomie, Grassley's a political animal with the worst of them.

7. Why on Earth would a Senator be against "anti-lynching legislation"???
Voting against anti-lynching legislation seems pretty outrageous.

Does this mean that Grassley is for lynching?

He wants to be on record as not opposing lynching?

This is bizarre.

I really don't get this.

9. Glad he finally made it - did they have to wake him up from his nap
to get it done?

10. Oh Chuck, what will you do next?
Was that the "apology" that was proprosed by Landrieu and Allen, or was that actually a new bill that set a new law?
