It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Seemed like we were at an event or meeting with a staff nearly every day. Especially those Obama kids. They were everywhere. What ever happened to that Obama guy, anyway?

1. Heh, Mr. Debi asked me to go back through his calendar and figure out
the first presidential contacts we made and when they were. I think the first event we went to was when I met you and PStans at the Feingold event in Iowa City (what was that? 2006???). The first event we participated in where a candidate who actually threw their hat in the ring was the Memorial Day parade with Joe Biden (2007). I'm sure there were more. Amazing - two years of preparation for this! Do you remember the first time you met Obama? The first time you heard him speak (in Iowa, not the 2004 National Convention)?

And now we have five short months left - that's it!

2. Oh boy do I remember the first time we met Obama
we were a 'special group' that got to meet him in Muscatine before his appearance. Was supposed to be @ten anded up being @ 50. Obama came in the room and we stood and applauded. He had that embarrassed little boy look. He gave us a sit down sign as he said "hey it's only me, it's only Barack. We're just people. We're just friends. Sit down." We then had about 30 minutes of some pretty good back and forth. I want to say it was early May of 2007. I have a book he autographed for me that day.
I think Feingold was fall of 2006 @ November maybe? Not sure.
We spent a lot of time with the Obama group. They were simply charming in their simplicity and focus. I never quite converted but we helped them with food and furniture and all they needed.
Mrs. Lib had a chance to sit nose to nose with Michelle Obama at a small post speech meeting. My goodness what a wonderful person. Since I am near old enough to be her father, my first comment when we left was "I wonder what her parents think?" (didn't know her dad had died). But can you imagine, your daughter who has a great future marries this community organizer? He's charming, sure. But community organizer is a hard life. Now look where they are. And Grandmother takes care of the kids while they ......
Oh, I am going on and on.....
