TH Editor explains why they put extreme right wingers on the opinion page

The editor of the Dubuque Telegraph Herald, Brian Cooper, had this missive published in today's paper. He was trying to explain why the paper has the likes of Kathryn Jean Lopez and Diana West on the opinion page and is refusing to take them off.

Those two make Cal Thomas and George Will look like thoughtful and considerate just left of center moderates. I cannot stand either West or Lopez, and I do a facepalm every time I see one of their missives in the paper.

My question is if Mr. Cooper wrote this before or after Lopez put out her piece about Rihanna getting beat up by boyfriend Chris Brown and using the beating to justify her attack on feminism?

1. Why bother to buy their paper.

I would guess the best way to get them out of the paper would be to send them a little email that says I am done buying your paper or advertising in it. If a few hundred of your friends join you, maybe they'll listen. Even if they don't you will be saving a few bucks.
BTW sorry, I haven't had time to even try to write an LTTE for the TH.

2. I don't buy the paper

Most times I access it through the online site and if I'm somewhere where I can read the newspaper itself then I do so. Which is usually where I wind up seeing the articles by those two right wing extremists.
