Steve King - tax cheat?
Here is a link to a Sioux City Journal article claiming that Steve King improperly/illegally took a homestead exemption on his home in Washington, D.C. and his home in Kiron, Iowa. As such, he would be receiving the homestead exemption and not paying full property taxes. Three other republicon congressmen are also implicated.

Congressman King claims that the DC Dept of Revenue made a mistake. I remember that I had to sign a document declaring my homestead to receive an exemption. It shall be fun to see how far this goes, if anywhere. Remember, Rep. King made some strong statements against Daschle and Geitner.

2. Isn't the homestead exemption for the PRIMARY residence only?
So Stevie is claiming TWO primary residencies? How convenient.

5. Oh please, please, please make it so.
One of the comments on the SCJ website encourages him to resign because of his outrage over Daschle's problems

" Steve King on Feb. 3rd: "Confirming Tom Daschle as Health Secretary would be an insult to the millions of Americans who work hard and pay their taxes on time. If President Obama continues to press for Daschle's confirmation, it sends a message to the American people that paying taxes is irrelevant and unnecessary. This nomination represents the height of hypocrisy from an Administration that promised change and new levels of transparency in government."

So, IF this charge is accurate I know we can all expect that Rep. King will not be a hypocrite and he will immediately resign his office. "

8. DMR: King's D.C. tax credit is an error
A clerical mistake by the property tax administration in Washington, D.C., allowed U.S. Rep. Steve King to receive a tax credit intended for people whose district property serves as their permanent residence, the agency's director said Thursday.

King, a four-term Iowa Republican, was named in a story in The Hill newspaper this week as one of four House members who wrongly received the credit.

...

"Although you never applied for the benefit or the tax cap, the (Office of Tax and Revenue) applied the deduction to the property when the deed was recorded," McKeithen's letter states.

The error may have occurred by someone inadvertently transferring the tax credit claimed by the previous owner to King when he bought the home in 2005.

King spokesman Matt Lahr said King would pay the back taxes. The letter stated that the credit had been removed and that the agency would notify King of the amount due within a week.

10. Stupid accounting errors
I am sure the congressman will still repay the taxes that he owes, even if this was not his own doing.
