Do you think this would work in Iowa??
This year, Hoosiers will have an average property tax cut of more than 30 percent; a total of $870 million in relief will be provided. Beginning in 2010, homeowner property taxes will be capped at 1 percent of a home’s assessed value, apartments and agriculture land will be capped at 2 percent of assessed value, and business property will be capped at 3 percent of assessed value. Once fully implemented, the plan delivers $1.72 in tax cuts for each $1 of new sales tax.

I heard about this plan while in Indiana. Doesn't look bad at first glance and wonder whether or not we could adopt a similar plan for Iowa.. I know each year alot of people complain about how our property taxes are figured and this would greatly simplify that process..

So what do you think?

2. So how will they pay for Gov't services?

Or is Daniels just planning on selling everything?
On the surface it sounds like the repugs wet dream - cut taxes to nothing and then watch people die when services are cut off.
IIRC Indiana was on a 4 day a week school schedule last year. Daniels and the repug legislature cut taxes to the bone. Thanks to floods in southern Indiana people forgot about their rage at Daniels (booed out of the building at a Pacers playoff game) as he became a savior. Not sure if they got the schools back on a 5 day a week schedule or not.
I also remember how unpopular he was when he sold the Indiana Turnpike.
So I suspect this will be popular until schools and libraries and social services are closed down. Of course, most likely there will be a Democrat in charge then and he or she will have to deal with the mess left over.
ETA - guess I missed that there would be some new sales tax. There is a point at which people will rebel against sales taxes also. I remember hearing that 10 cents was about the break even point. Indiana must be on the cusp of 10 cents now. Even if not, sales tax does hit the poor hardest.

My kids live in Indiana and they are not at all happy with Daniels. He was Bushie's first budget guy and he has a penchant for cutting services to the poor.
Had we elected Jim Nussle, this is the kind of proposals I am sure we would get. $1.72 in tax cuts vs. $1 in new revenue?
