I heard there is going to be another "tax protest" day
on July 4 in downtown Davenport. I'll be downtown that day for Bluesfest. I'm thinking about dropping in on them and 1- explaining what "teabagging" means, and 2- passing out some "support single payer" flyers. And then I think I'll laugh at them as I'm running for my life. I think it's near the Figge art gallery from 1-3 PM or thereabouts.

2. Maybe you should hand out some graphic flyers about teabagging too?

3. Take a camera
At least get some pictures for us. You never know when the next "moran" picture will present itself.

4. Went down to the alleged taxpayers protest

And there they were, standing out in the rain. I tried to engage one of them in a conversation. It went something like this. Me, "You guys realize bush and company got us in this mess, right?" Him, "Yeah and we got his fat ass out of there too." Me, "Let's be fair. Bush isn't a fat ass. A fat head maybe, but he's in pretty good physical shape". Him, "You know what I mean!". I asked him if he voted for McCain. He said no. So I asked him if he voted for Obama. He again said no. So I asked him who did he vote for? He said, "You've probably never heard of him". I said, "Hell, I've heard of none of the above a lot of times. You didn't vote for anyone did you?" He turned away from me and waved at a passing car at that point. Then I said, "You realize that the unregulated free market got us the way we are now don't you?" He said, "The free market will get us out of it too." I said "Yeah right". Then he said something which still puzzles me. He said, "Why don't you get a job?" I told him, truthfully, that "I have a job and not only that, I getting paid for standing out here talking to you. We're a Union place." Then he said that "Unions are commie organizations too." I then started laughing and told him that "I am wasting my time talking to you assholes. Bluesfest is happening and I'm going to get paid to listen to some great music and drink beer." He yelled something at me when I walked away but I didn't quite hear what he said. But a couple of other people who were walking near where we were having our um, conversation remarked that the guy was senseless. I agreed and we all went into Bluesfest and proceeded to have a wonderful time in spite of the weather.
By the way, the QCTimes stated that there were around 100 people out there. I'm not the best judge of crowds, but it seemed more like about 40 or 50 to me.

5. The Dubuque TH reported on the teabagging up here
And they seem to have quite the vested interest in making as big a GD deal out of it as possible. Their front page article said there was about 100 people at the teabagging, but I wonder if they're inflating the claims too?

Sometimes the TH is just about worthless as far as good journalism is concerned.
