Reasons to be Cheerful: Part Four
Am I reading this right? I've got the IC Press Citizen in front of me, but I can't find the link. So, you'll have to trust me. Of 372 metro areas, Iowa City and Ames rank #2 and #3 in the lowest jobless rates for May. Bismarck, ND is tops. Well now. Another reason to be proud of our great state.

1. Iowa City has always been a bubble due to the university
We always used to joke about it being recession proof. Probably one of the big reasons why so many students hang around long after graduation.

to #2 in the wind farms, a leader in alternative energies, to steady economics.. to personal freedoms and the ability to marry the person you love, to having our largest employer being employee owned (for all the right wing talking heads who claim employee owned buisness always fail.. to the butter cow..

8. The first step, Peace, is to make sure the butter isn't Bad.
Won't hold up as well for those 11 days at The Fair!

12. Your husband must be startin' somethin', Peace.
Jazzfest is going, but I despise jazz. The fireworks are being held at Hubbard Park, next to the Union. Hopefully, it clears by then.

13. He is all about the "A.B.C." s of things...
Went to Saturday in the Park in Sioux City last night.. Counting Crows was there.. Pretty good, can't complain when it is free.. but here was the funny thing.. Did a lot of people watching, and everyone had their cell phone out texting taking pictures etc.. Well Counting Crows did not come on stage till 9:00 PM...

So it is dark.. right in front of us on the grass were four people, jumping up and down waving lighters etc.

One of the guys stuck his cell phone in his hip pocket when he stood up, its dark and the pocket of his pants must have been thin, when suddenly, the phone comes on and a light starts shining from his left buttock.

My husband leans over.. Someone must be calling him to tell him, "You Light Up My Life".. needless to say I lost it. One of those you had to be there moments..

Counting Crows playing Big Yellow Taxi and a guy with a blinking backside. Fourth of July on the western side of the state.

14. Allright, Billie Jean, not my girl...
...a VERY uneventful Fourth in Iowa City. The weather was just awful. Cool and clammy in the evening. The usual setting off of fireworks but the weather put a huge damper on attitudes. Wouldn't you know, today is beautiful. The Counting Crows in Sioux City for the Fourth seems like a pretty big deal to me. Their best days are behind them, however, beats the hell out of Dennis DeYoung of the worst band in history- Styx, who played Coralville Friday night. Wouldn't cross the street to see him.

15. Except self-employed don't count as unemployed. Which means farmers can never be unemployed. Not
Edited on Sun Jul-05-09 05:09 PM by lindisfarne
that the unemployment rate isn't good news.
Students also generally don't qualify to be counted as unemployed.
