Mechanicsville woman charged with trying to extort anti-tax group
Now this is interesting:

A woman who accused a major player in Iowa politics of illegal campaign contributions has been charged with attempting to extort $1 million from Iowans for Tax Relief and its co-founder, David Stanley of Muscatine.

Mary Kathryn Moravek, 51, of Mechanicsville, was arrested Tuesday afternoon when she met with an undercover detective who she thought was delivering a $30,000 payment from Stanley and Iowans for Tax Relief in exchange for her silence.

Moravek claims she has witnessed illegal campaign contributions being made by at least one Iowans for Tax Relief employee over a period of at least five years.

1. Very interesting.
ITR is not exactly a bastion of ethics. Stanley was caught a few years ago stealing from his own family and funneling the money to fundie churches and organizations.
Ed Failor is the one who organized the shouting disturbance in the legislature last March. All tolled these guys live on the edge of ethics rules.
History tells me that their doing something like they are accused of is not out of the realm of possibility.
I wonder why Robinson quit had he done nothing wrong.
I don't condone what this woman did. Extortion is wrong and pretty dumb in this case. But something seems kind of hinky on the ITR side of this equation also.
This may bear watching.
