TH had this to say about Fort Hood

Families of military personnel live every day with the burden of knowing that their loved one could lose his or her life in the line of duty. That is the potential sacrifice that comes with the territory. Death in the name of fighting for one's country, for freedom and liberty, is an honorable and worthwhile legacy.

Yet these very families must come to grips with a much more bitter reality following last week's shooting spree at Fort Hood. A senseless and random death is not what families had prepared for. Many of the 13 dead and at least 30 wounded were anticipating being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. Whatever perils awaited them, they stood ready for the challenge in the name of the U.S. military. It's crushing that these same brave individuals could have their service cut short in such a horrific manner, by someone who shared their uniform.

Details surrounding the tragedy continue to unfold. But it is unlikely any of that information will provide an explanation for those mourning the loss of loved ones. For now, we honor those who died, and hold in our hearts.
