Boswell (D-IA) has abdominal surgery in Washington
<http://www.dmregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050921/NEWS08/509210364/1001/NEWS>

The Des Moines Register is reporting this morning that Iowa Democratic Congressman Leonard Boswell is recovering from surgery to remove an abdominal "mass". I pray that the Congressman is okay and that it is not cancerous. I wonder if this will affect the Congressman's decision to run for re-election. This is a pretty safe Democratic seat, but an open seat would be minimally more difficult to hold.

Here is more from the Register:

Aides said Boswell had the surgery at Washington Hospital Center. The course of treatment "will remove the mass, which will require a longer-than-usual hospital stay," the statement said.

Boswell, 71, had surgery in December to remove his appendix and gallbladder. He had returned to work following that surgery.

Eric Witte, a spokesman for Boswell, said he did not have any information as to whether or not the abdominal mass was cancerous. He said the surgery was related to the earlier surgery, although he did not have details on how.

1. Update
I wanted to pass along this update on Congressman Boswell. If you go to www.whotv.com and click on the video link you can see a story about Congressman Boswell and his surgery. They say that he may be in the hospital for several months. That sure does not sound good. Please keep the Congressman in your positive thoughts and prayers.

2. I was at a meeting with some other Fallon supporters in Ames
they had heard that Culver and maybe Judge are ready to run if Boswell does not. They also talked about a BBQ in Ames that was in Ames and had people from all of the Governor campaigns and there was no one there from Culver's campaign.

4. Get Well Cards to Leonard
here's something from a Boswell sidebar in a DSM Reg story about moron Steve King:

NEXT: Boswell remains in the hospital, although aides said he is beginning to look through correspondence and congressional work. Cards may be sent to Boswell's district office at 300 E. Locust St., Suite 320, Des Moines, IA 50309.

5. Leonard needs to retire
We have so many young capable Democratic leaders in his district who would make good Congresspersons. Leonard needs to retire before the Republicans capture his seat. Its not too late for him to bow out and let another Dem run in 2006.
