Nussle ad hits airwaves (No name recognition in Western Iowa?)
A year to the day before Iowa voters go to the polls to select their next governor, Republican candidate Jim Nussle announced his campaign would be the first in the race to hit the airwaves with radio and TV ads.

Nussle's ad will begin running this week on TV and radio stations in Western Iowa, where GOP rival Bob Vander Plaats of Sioux City is from.

But Vander Plaats campaign spokeswoman Kristi Dusenbery said an early poll shows Vander Plaats is gaining support among voters while Nussle is losing ground.

Secretary of State Chet Culver, a Democrat who is running for governor, said in a statement the new commercial shows Nussle is clearly feeling pressure.

"I look forward to Iowans seeing the real Jim Nussle --- the one who has helped turn record surpluses into record deficits, all while giving tax breaks to the wealthy and pushing budget cuts that fall disproportionately on the poorest among us," Culver said
