A National Day of Protest!
Bring the Noise!

Drown Out Bush’s Lies!

In large cities and small towns all across the country, join in rallies one hour before Bush’s address as we make our determination to “Drive Out the Bush Regime” the political message of the day.

At 9:00 PM EST, just as Bush starts to speak, everywhere we will BRING THE NOISE. In a cacophony of sound, we will drown out his address with music: from drums to violins, from hip hop and classical; and with noise: banging pots and ringing church bells, sound car horns and lifting our voices.

To organize a rally in your area, email info@worldcantwait.org

Beginning list of convergences accross the country (more to come):
(all rallies begin at 8pm EST unless otherwise noted)

Anyone hear of any plans for events in Iowa?

What about a DU Gathering that night in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area?

1. If we do this in the CR area, can I make a recommendation?
I don't like holding events in Green Square Park. It's a nice park, but the location for a demonstration isn't the best. Maybe we could meet off 1st Ave down by the upside down toilet brush? Maybe City Square Park in downtown Marion? Maybe in front of the courthouse off the 3rd or 2nd Street bridges?

Just thoughts.

If there is a gathering or event, count me in (regardless of where it is held).

6. In CR 1st and 1st would be a good choice
...right in front of the Federal building.

Marion Square Park would be asking for police intervention, imho.

Our Saturday anti-war protest (every week, rain or shine) was held for a time just inside Marion, at the Armar plaza. The Marion police were all over us - every weekend it was something new.

CR cops are much more inclined to respect civil rights. We finally moved up the road a few blocks, to the sidewalk in front of Granite City, and have not been bothered once - except for the first Saturday, when the manager at Granite City tried to have us kicked off "his" sidewalk. The CR police told him we had every right to be on public property.

I agree, Green Square Park is too secluded. We might as well be indoors!

I'll see if I can get something going for the 31st around here.

Cornfield, have you ever been to the Linn County Democrat Central Committee meetings? I'm thinking that if I made up a flyer to distribute there, we might get some people to show up. Wanna come along?

There might also be lots of warm bodies at the caucuses on the 16th.

If you really wanted to do one in Marion... well, PM me.

As a side note, I got the Unity newsletter in the mail and don't see a Women for Peace date on the calendar. Did those move?

8. We're holding our WFPI meetings
in the Peace Center for the time being, at the corner of 3rd Street and 11th Ave in CR.

Unity is a very popular meeting place among members, but we decided to try to bring more people to the Peace Center by holding our meetings there for a while.

Didn't even notice that it wasn't on the message that cut and pasted. Sorry, it is January 31st, which I am pretty sure is a Tuesday night.

5. Thanks
I was concerned that it was last night, in which case the shrubster would have been interrupting a new episode of Lost.

He's ruined enough, but to interrupt Lost I would have REALLY been mad.
