Help bring AAR to eastern Iowa.
Folks,
I have asked for help before, let me ask again. We have formed an ad hoc committee based in Iowa City to try to persuade Clear Channel (yeah, I know they are right wing but they own all the radio stations) to bring AAR or some form of liberal radio to Eastern Iowa - Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
We need letters and emails to be sent to the general manager of Clear Channel for eastern Iowa. His name is John Laton. We want to generate as many letters and emails as possible. Clear Channel (CC) is a business. If they can be persuaded that they can sell advertising time and make money they may change a station.
Here is Mr. Laton's email:
johnlaton@clearchannel.com

Here is his snail mail
John Laton
c/o WMT Radio
600 Old Marion Road NE
Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402

Letters & emails should include:
1) Your name and how long you have lived in the area.
2) Why you feel liberal radio would be a huge success
3) Why you want an alternative to current radio in this area.
AND VERY IMPORTANT:
4) Be respectful. CC is a business and they need to see this as a major opportunity.

I am asking those in the Iowa City/ Cedar Rapids area to write, or those who could pull their radio from there.
Also, particularly those in CR, tell your friends, unions, party activists and anyone you can think of. And have them spread the word.
Thanks for your help and spread the word.
PS -
For those in central Iowa the GM is a man named Joel McCrea. I would assume his email is similar (eg joelmccrea@clearchannel.com). See what you can do. Here is a link to get an address:
http://www.clearchannel.com/Radio/StationSearch.aspx?RadioSearch=kasi
Then click on the little 'more' button in the lower right corner.

Here is a sample letter I sent:

Mr. John Laton
General Manager Clear Channel Radio
c/o KXIC radio
Iowa City, Iowa.

Mr. Laton,
I got your name from a listing on the Clear Channel website. As general manager of Clear Channel operations in this area I am hoping that you are the person to contact with this request.
Has your company given consideration to changing one of the stations that serve Iowa City and Cedar Rapids to a liberal format?
The Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area is a predominantly liberal area. Yet radio service is mostly right wing talk radio or NPR. Many think that NPR is liberal, but it is decidedly not liberal. It would seem to be a great business opportunity to introduce liberal radio into a predominantly liberal area.
I currently can get liberal radio at home through your station in the Quad Cities, WKBF. However I lose that signal in Iowa City where I spend considerable time. I listen to WKBF from the time the signal clears in the morning until I lose it at night.
I would think a show like Stephanie Miller would be a huge hit in Iowa City/ Cedar Rapids. Again, I can’t help but believe that this is a great business opportunity for Clear Channel.
If you would like to contact me I will include my email and phone in my closing.

Sincerely,
