Who else who subscribes to the DM Register thinks that
the editors spend way too much time telling us how great they are always doing at covering important stuff (when they are certainly not!)?

1. I don't pay for it...just read it on line or at the cafe
If they were doing such a great job why would they have to keep telling us, wouldn't we already know it?

4. Only the people in the Golden Circle DM metro area
could know this. The rest of us need to be repeatedly told. Have you noticed how they don't like paying anyone for Op Ed articles? (In the old days they would publish some of mine and send me some bucks). Now they stick focus group letters on the op ed page or else large pics or else a lot of opinions from their Younger Readers Roundtableor whatever they call it and of course they aren't paying them anything for their opinion paragraphs. Or else all the DM editors all have big articles on that page saying how wonderful they are and how benighted everyone else is. Oh yes, Yepsen is always on that page too with his sucky petit-bourgeois opinions. See how it works? No input of wise older Iowa writers who might be expecting some payment however minute!!

6. My husband sent an op ed in and they made him sign a waiver
and release before they'd agree to publish it. What was he gonna do? Sue them for printing what he'd asked them to print? :eyes:

7. They began gut my articles and letters to the point that they
were nonsensical!! They can't stand any reference to the crimes of corporate capitalism. Guilty consciences??

2. Could be worse....try the Dubuque TH
I stopped taking the daily, and I'm about to give up the Sunday. They seem to go out of their way to reprint every insane letter-to-the-editor they can get their hands on, and I don't need to be told that I'm a traitor to my country over my corn flakes every day.

Just a terrible paper, all around. I miss the Register.

3. TH sucks but just hada good series on priest molestation
a friend of ours wrote it, an 8 part series, so that was an improvement. They usually bend way over to the RW catholics up there and those folks hated this series of course.

5. That was actually a very good series, I stand corrected...
I was genuinely surprised by that one, it was pretty bold journalism for the TH. Props to your friend, that took some stones around these parts.
