Aides said the governor will also engage in discussions on how the United States and Israel are addressing the challenges created by the recent Hamas election victory and Iran's pursuit of advanced nuclear capability.

It's the second foreign trip for Vilsack in two months. Last month he traveled to Afghanistan and Iraq. Governors who seek their party's presidential nomination are often criticized for not having foreign policy experience, and Vilsack may be looking to burnish his international portfolio.

Some Democrats worry about the impact Vilsack would have on the caucuses by running, but other potential Democratic candidates have not been deterred and a steady stream has passed through the state.

1. Wow, Super-Tom will solve all the world's problems himself
I wonder if he'll offer them $100 million in Iowa taxpayer dollars just to play nice? :eyes:

Good for him, I guess, just wish he'd help run the state of Iowa and work to insure Democratic victories in 2006 before he decides to be the chosen one.

2. Agree - I suppose if he is the nominee in two years I'll be singing
a different tune, but right now I wish he were taking care of business in Iowa. I hope he is planning on busting his butt for the Dem nominee for governor.

3. He's about 99 trips to Israel behind Hillary Clinton.
Maybe he could live on a kibbutz for a year. If they still have them.
