Blouin wants incentives for industry

<snip>

Blouin said Tuesday the state needs to spend more to help advanced manufacturing ventures in the state.

Last year, a consultant suggested spending $160 million over 10 years to accomplish a series of goals to boost manufacturing. The report suggested up to 36,000 jobs, direct and indirect, could be created over that time span.

Blouin said he wants to implement a piece of the report. “Without concentrated dollars, it’s never going to happen,” he said. Blouin is the former head of Iowa’s economic development department. He left the position to run for governor.

Blouin said there may be $40 million to $50 million in tax credits that could be redirected annually to the venture. He didn’t identify where those might come from, but Gov. Tom Vilsack has said for years the state needs to review the approximately $4 billion in tax credits and exemptions the state allows.

JEEZ!!! What's an extra $160 Million after giving away $500 million? When does it end? :shrug:
