NW Iowans...was there much canvassing going on there?
I'm originally from NW Iowa, but go to school in Cedar Falls so I did all of my canvassing in Blackhawk County. Between the Blackhawk county dems and ACT and Students for Kerry and whatnot, we had Blackhawk county covered. I was wondering, were there many canvassers out in NW Iowa from either party?

1. I did some in my area
for all the good it did with all the repubs here. A few people were very willing to talk but the higher percentage of people I talked to became quite hostile at the very inference of voting for some one other than gee dumbya.

I didn't venture to farm houses out into the country though. I won't do it alone and everyone else was either busy or many of them are older and so they don't get out and about as easily.

But not a single person, Dem or repub ever came to my door or called.
The repubs have it sewn up pretty tight round these parts. But then heh heh I was the designated ~D~ that covered my own tiny little town ;-)

2. Republicans have a pretty firm grip on my town and county too...
I thought it would be cool to canvass in my town though, just to hear what other people had to say about why they were voting for their chosen candidate. I respect people who can say why they support their candidate and explain the reasoning behind their support, but I would venture to say that the majority of W supporters in NW Iowa, wouldn't be able to pose an educated argument as to why they are gave him their votes. Orange Cityans would cite the Bible as their main reason, but the majority of W supportes in my town still believe that Iraq was behind 9/11.

3. NW Iowa - I feel for you
And Orange City...jeez, if that isn't the most red town in IA then it ties for first...with Sioux Center. Hang in there.

5. I'm not from Orange City (Thank God!)
But I do have a lot of friends that go to school there. The school has completely ruined them.

6. Now, now. Calm down.
My parents live up there and have been keeping that area from becoming completely blood red for the last 6 decades. Sure, LOTS of red neck morons there, but there are plenty of people fighting the good fight too.

7. There is an underground at the college
Our son graduated last year and many of his friends were liberals. They had a good time over R rated movies at the new theater being an "issue" with the locals. I can't argue that Orange City and Sioux County are very republican, 4% registered Dems. if I remember. 5th District convention had a candidate for national delegate from Orange City that gave a GREAT introduction of herself and got my vote. If you look hard enough there is some good everywhere.

8. R rated movies?!?!
Holy cow, I'm shocked. I remember when I was in high school (in NW IA), there were kids that couldn't go to any movies at all, or dances, or even play cards (first it's Go Fish, next thing you know you're selling the farm to go to Vegas)

Cards and Dancing are also strictly prohibited there.

10. R rated "issues" LMAO!
Yeah, I always kind of got a chuckle out of that too. I do love that theater though. Comfy seats, good equipment, great prices. It's the best in the area. I'd much rather drive the extra 10 minutes up there than go to Sioux City's crappy (and expensive) theaters.

Well I'm glad to hear that there is a so-called "underground" up there. It'd would be a little too creepy if there wasn't.
