2. I didn't get to see the debate, but here

is one of the first reviews I read.

Democrat Congressional candidate says cut funding to get
troops out of Iraq

by O.Kay Henderson

One of the Democrats who's running for Iowa's first district
congressional seat says if he's elected, he'd consider the
option of withholding funding for the troops in Iraq to
pressure President Bush to bring America soldiers home.

Bruce Braley , a lawyer from Waterloo, says it wouldn't be a
first option but might be a last resort to get Bush to pull
the troops out of Iraq. "I can't do anything to affect
this until next January when I would be sitting in congress so
I think that once you get consensus from members of the House
and Senate that we have to do something to redeploy, then it's
a matter of negotiating with the White House to make it
happen," Braley says. "That's where the power of the
purse string that congress has under the Constitution is
what's necessary to make that happen."

Braley says he would hope it wouldn't be necesary to cut off
funds to the military to get the troops out of Iraq, but if
that's what's necessary to get the troops home he's favor that
over President Bush's apparent plan. Braley cites Bush's
statements predicting American troops will still be in Iraq
when Bush leaves office in January, 2009. "If (U.S.
troops) are still there when I enter into congress I will use
every means in my ability...to convince the administration
it's time to redeploy those troops," Braley says.
"If it doesn't happen, then certainly one of the tools
available to congress is to start reducing funding which is
the only way we pay for the troops there right now."

3. Bad move on Braley's part...
I mean, I understand putting pressure on Bush to pull the troops out, but claiming he'd work to withhold funding for troops is a TERRIBLE PR MOVE.

That is something the Republican machine could just POUNCE on. I can just hear the ads now.

4. I have to agree with you.
I am not in the 1st district, so maybe my voice doesn't matter, but if I were voting, Braley would be the guy I'd support.

Unfortunately, this comment, IF TRULY MADE (I don't see a link in the article, nor have I heard about it anywhere else) is all the ammo the eventual opponent will need to shoot down Braley's credibility with the 'security vote' folks.

I'd appreciate a link to a reliable news source stating this comment was made.

5. I really think that he was getting at voting down blank-check like bills
That the Administration has been receiving (this isn't coming from Braley's campaign, just me).

Better to vote against a bill that once again gives Haliburton no-bid contracts and rubber-stamps the administrations march to this war and force Congress to create a bill that funds THE TROOPS (you know, combat armor - casualty pay for the families of injured or killed soldiers).

How (or when) does Congress ever stand up to the current administration?

Certainly a PR nightmare, but I believe Braley is saying that he'd fight for the troops, rather than just keep giving Bush what he asks for on a silver platter.

Just my 2 cents.

9. Understood..
Hopefully the message will be clarified by the Braley camp...stated as you did it would take a little of the bite out. I think I know where he is coming from, but the sad fact is that these days it seems that campaigns are run on slogans and soundbytes and this seems (to me) to be a not-so-small gaffe on Braley's part.

I still like him for our candidate in the 1st district, he just needs to slow down and carefully measure his words before letting lose!

7. Isn't Radio
Iowa a credible source?

http://www.radioiowa.com/gestalt/go.cfm?objectid=F351AF07-9080-46B9-A26636939498B2F6

the article is right here. There was an article about this also on the waterloo cedar falls courir, quad city times, and the des moines register online.

And that is all I asked for.

Simply pasting an 'article' into a message body, however, is not a valid source.

Thanks for the link, I will have to read that now.

ON EDIT: So are you and walksoftly the same person or what?

14. No, not at all...

It just seems odd that you'd come along the same time as the other poster and claim to be 2 people...post with the same margins/fonts, espouse the same rhetoric, and know where an article came from that was posted by this other person without a link being in the original thread.

I suppose it could be a coincidence that you have the same font/margins (and odd ones at that), and you could have used Ms Cleo and the psychic friend's network to figure out where the article came from?

Sheesh, I think I welcomed you once, but welcome welcome welcome again. That being said, I am not going to kiss your ass.

ON EDIT: I removed the reminder of the DU rules, because I see that Debi already reminded you..i mean walk softly...er..uh...you know what I mean.

18. I get the idea that
you're more interested in the messenger rather than the message. I realize if I quit making mistakes, I wouldn't have to keep apologizing, but enough is enough. Someone asked a question, I tried to provide information. Enough pokes at the new kids because of margins, fonts, etc - and don't worry - I will be here after June 6th. I've worked for Democratic candidates and the Party for the past 33 years and will continue knocking on doors, calling phone lists, organizing volunteers for some time to come. Blogging may be new to me - the hard work in campaigns and GOTV is not!

I'd be interested in what others have to say about the debate itself.

gets across. :eyes:

Which is why the negative hit pieces come so naturally to you?

To help you along, on the upper left side of any of my posts is a little profile with a red 'x' on it. Click on that and you've put me on ignore. You will not be able to read any more of my posts and will not have to respond to them anymore. (This information is in the rules, but, well, we know).

Then you can read everyone else's opinions about your posts w/out me ruining your posting experience. :hi:
